Overall 34 Hours 4.0, My EC’s are very good. I think my essays are good as well. Currently taking 17 hours at ACC. I applied for freshman admission last year and was offered CAP. Chose to try the CC route instead.
Don’t bomb the essays and you should be a lock. I transferred from ACC with about 3.6 or so a couple of yeard ago. UT had a publication called Transfer Times back then that said the average COLA transfer GPA was 3.58. Also, ACC has a good reputation with UT Admissions, which accepts about 500 transfers a year from ACC.
Here is some background info before I begin.
I was a CAP student my freshman year but ultimately got a D in a course, retook it in the spring for a grade replacement, and got a C ( I’m not great with math ). Anyway, I ended my freshman year with a 3.26 which put me right at the 3.2 gpa requirement for CAP students. Sadly, I got rejected from my CAP automatic admission learning that UT Austin doesn’t not follow a grade replacement policy and included my D in the gpa calculation, therefore putting me at a 2.9something. Here are my stats.
-Transferring from UTEP
-Applying to COLA as a Philosophy Major for Fall 2016
-After this fall semester I’ll have…
(Prospective) 3.2 GPA
47 credit hours
…and after spring semester 2016 I’ll have,
(Prospective) 3.4 GPA
59 credit hours
-extended resume
(2) very well written essays, edited and revised by multiple English professors
(4) LOR from my restaurant manager/owner , President of El Paso Community College, my philosophy professor/advisor, philosophy department chair at UTEP
EC’s:
-4 years of string orchestra (Texas State Music Scholar & All Region Musician 3 years)
-El Paso Music Conservatory Student
-Key Club Memeber
-Texas DECA District & State winner, competed at nationals
-Babysitter
-Bible school teacher
-EP Humane Society Animal Shelter volunteer
-Employed at restaurant for 2 years as a hostess/server
-In the process of joining philosophy club and potentially a sorority here at UTEP
I know what could kill me is my GPA, but I’ve shown an upward pattern of progress and hope that is taken into consideration. The personal essay of mine stressed on the lessons learned regarding my rough start of freshman year and how I only intend to improve from here on out. Furthermore, I hope that my essays, letters, and EC’s can assist. Something that could help is a philosophy major isn’t as competitive as let’s say COLA economics so I’m kind of relying on that as well.
What do ya’ll think? Any recommendations/tips? Everything helps, thank you
Hello everyone I am planning on transferring from ACC to UT’s Computer Science program during the 2016 spring window.
You don’t have to tell me how overpopulated and competitive the CS program is I already know.
This is my first semester in college (Graduated last summer)
GPA: 4.0
Earned credits: 31
By end of this semester: 43(I am taking all the recommended courses on the transfer guide)
High AP Scores
Internship experience in programming
More than enough EC’s(ALOT)
2 recommendation letters
Taking Chem, Calc, Comp Sci, and other classes atm
I could expand all those but i’m sure you guys have seen how long they can be.
All in all would like your honest chances. THANKS A LOT for the read!
So anyone interested in transferring to Computer Science will NOT be able to for the Spring 2016 semester. Just spoke with someone that works in admissions for the College of Natural Sciences, apparently it’s a very recent change.

@longhorntobe Yeah, I was hoping more people would post as well! There have to be other transfers out there, lol. I submitted my application the second of July. I graduated with an A.A. in History in May from Tyler Junior College. Finished with a 3.9 GPA, and looking to get my B.A. in history from UT!
@swasher hopefully we’ll get more post as the deadline approaches! I’m about to submit my application in a couple days for COLA Economics. I currently attend a UT satellite campus and have a 3.57 with 33 hours (currently enrolled for 15 hours). Hope I get in! You look like you’re in pretty good shape! Good luck!
Hello, I’m a freshman at Lone Star community college. I hope to transfer FALL 2016, and actually kinda have to since I have nothing else to take after.
Major: Advertising and Design (I already know I want to double major)
So therefore Moody or Fine Arts
Credits Earned : 21 hours (through dual credit)
GPA : 3.1 (I believe)
Currently taking 16 hours and next semester 13 hours
All of these are transferable I checked
I work at Lone Star in Enrollment Management as a Student Ambassador and may find a way to join Student Government, Humanitarian Club, and maybe another I don’t know.
I don’t have too much time to join clubs without going crazy so that’s about it on the whole involvement with school.
I know I need to raise that GPA, for sure! I can get recommendations letters when the time comes. I plan to work on essays over Thanksgiving or when the time is available. So be honest even if it’s brutal!!!
So I just submitted my application and it’s on MyStatus, it’s saying that I need to submit a form for automatic transfer admission even though I never requested automatic admission. Did this happen to anyone else?
Hi! I’m a freshman at Texas A&M University for engineering. I was looking to transfer into UT engineering for the Fall 2016. Right now i have 21 credits from APs. I’m not sure which branch of engineering i should apply to, any suggestions?
My courses right now include Engineering Physics 1, Engineering Calculus 2, Engineering course 1, and some core classes.
Is anyone else applying for spring but does not have all their 30 hours complete? Because I wont have my 30 hours complete until after this semester. If so does that lower my chances of getting in?
Hi! I don’t have enough stats yet to post, since I am a freshman, but I will after this semester.
My question is, how important are rec letters? I could get a ton of recs from UT alums but would it be more beneficial to get more from my current professors?
I’m a freshman at SMU hoping to transfer to McCombs Fall 2016
I’m a business major at SMU, but since I am still a freshman I haven’t declared yet (most undergrads declare spring of their sophomore year if they meet the requirements) but I am in Delta Sigma Pi, a national professional business fraternity so I know want to do business and obviously with that on my resume it’s assumed I want to be a business major.
BUT I know McCombs is so competitive to get into, (although I’m aiming and think I can receive a 3.8+ GPA this year) so my question is should I try and transfer into a different college at UT? Like maybe COLA and have my major be economics so it still shows I’m on the same path and not just trying to beat the system. And then I would want to internally transfer into McCombs after my first year at UT (so as a junior)… Or should I just try and transfer straight into McCombs this coming fall?
@mccombsorbust you should definitely try for McCombs, and be sure to take your indicator courses (micro and macro economics + calc 1 and 2). a 3.8+ will make you competitive. If that doesn’t work out, there’s always COLA Economics and you can internally transfer the following spring. Good luck!
Thank you!! @longhorntobe so if I put McCombs as my first choice major and COLA Econ as my second choice, even if I don’t make it into McCombs I would get into cola? Bc I don’t want to ruin my chances by making McCombs my first choice
