@mccombsorbust putting COLA Econ as your second choice won’t hurt you in anyway. Each major you apply to reviews your application. If McCombs doesn’t accept you, your application will go into review at COLA Econ.
Hey everyone ! I’m applying as transfer but I don’t think my stats matter because I’m auto transfer. But I had a question how are you applying to Mccombs? On my app it doesn’t give me an option to select admission into Mccombs.
@amberlee9 there should be an option on the biographical information page on applytexas to choose which majors you want to apply to
What’s the average GPA for external transfers for COLA undeclared and COLA economics?
@amberlee9 Im pretty sure mccombs does not accept students for the spring semester, and I think the average GPA for COLA @mccombsorbust is about a 3.4 and higher.
Looks like I’m gonna have to apply as a COLA Econ major because I won’t be able to complete calc 2 in time…bummer but maybe I can try to internal transfer to McCombs as a junior
just a heads up for anyone following this thread, I called admissions today because I had some questions and he said they’ve been cracking down on internal transfers and it’s gotten a lot tougher so just be mindful of that. I’m still gonna go if I get into Econ and try to internal transfer because I just really want to be at UT but if anyone was planning on that just wanted to let yall know
So UT wants me to finish out the semester and then immediately send out my grades, does anyone know if this is good or bad for admission?
(I have about a 3.4 GPA + whatever I get this semester trying to transfer into COLA–Government)
On a side note, i got into Texas A&M last week. Frankly, I’m pretty excited to go there. I might just accept the admission offer soon so I can get housing and sign up for classes. I wonder if that decision would be binding.
gig em
are you wanting to go to UT for spring 2016?
3.4 is a little low, I called the office of admissions yesterday and they said average for cola was about a 3.6 but if you make great grades this semester and send them in like they said that should help raise it to where you need to be
@temoc22 ^^ sry forgot to tag
Does anyone know how highly weighted the resume (as well as extracurriculars in general) is to the application?
I can probably get it up to a 3.5
Maybe 3.59 if I can pull the 4.0 for this semester (will be tough)
Do you know anything about what the best strategy is with accepting school’s offers for transfer admissions?
Also, I wonder if that COLA average is inflated by the Econ majors? I know the Econ school is much more competitive than the others. Maybe it’s closer to 3.5? 3.4?
try for that 4.0. @temoc22 I called and they said the average for cola all around is a 3.6, but I know Econ is harder. And they said put the major you want the most for first and don’t try and get into an easy one and then internal transfer later because they’re making it harder to do that bc they know kids are trying to beat the system that way
you will still be considered with 3.4-3.5, people have gotten in with those GPAs, but if you wanted to know for sure you would get in then aim for higher @temoc22
I don’t know how heavily weighted they are, but they are definitely looked at and considered, probably when deciding between two applicants with similar profiles. GPA is still the most heavily weighted factor though. @longhorntobe
Hey guys!
Currently a sophomore at the University of Houston.
I’m hoping to transfer to UT Austin for either Summer 2016 or Fall 2016 (Which one is less competitive?)
Currently majoring in Early Childhood Education and I’m hoping to get accepted with that major at UT Austin as well.
Currently have 28 credit hrs from freshman year and taking 12 right now.
GPA from freshman year classes = 3.53
<austin community="" college="" -="" from="" high="" school="" years="">
US government - C
(but I plan on taking this again at U of H next semester to get an A)
I have a W from Anatomy & Physiology 1 (use to be a nursing major my very first semester here) … Would this matter too much since that class isn’t relevant to my major anymore?
I also have a solid Extra Curricular and Volunteer activities for my resume!
I’m planning on either applying to College of Social Work or Undeclared for my second major…
Do I have a chance of getting in??
From what I understand, you’d be right on the bubble.
So my application is now complete and on-time. I have a 3.57 with 33 hours of coursework, pretty good essays, and two letters of recommendation. My first choice major is COLA Economics and my second choice is COLA undeclared. How do you guys think my chances look?
@longhorntobe I’m not sure you’ll get Econ, but I think you’re in good shape for cola undeclared
Are u transferring for this spring? @longhorntobe
