Hopefully!
- Transferring from UT satellite campus
- 3.57 GPA
- First choice is COLA Economics and second choice is COLA Undeclared
- I invested a lot of time writing my essays, and I had them both checked by my peers and my English professors, so I think they're pretty good.
- 2 Letters of recommendation - Both from my college professors, one of them is a UT alumnus
- Deans List, volunteered at an orphanage, Intramural sports team.
• Tyler Junior College (Community college in Tyler, Texas); I graduated in May with honors. I have an A.A. in History.
• 3.9 GPA
• COLA, of course.
• First choice is History, second is Sociology.
• I’m a UIL writing veteran, so to speak, lol. I spent upwards of two weeks on my essays, and had several trusted folks read over them for me (one of which is a friend with a B.A. in English, and another friend of mine–also with a B.A. in English, who does copy editing work for the U.S. government!). I feel pretty secure in the quality of my essays.
• No letters of rec, sadly. I took most of my classes online so I could work full-time, so I had little in-classroom interactions.
• Not a lot, due to my rotating work schedule. But I did tutor at my college last fall semester, primarily in early U.S. History. I’m also a member of Sigma Kappa Delta, and three of my four semesters at TJC were spent on the President’s List.
@swasher I think you’re set for COLA! Only thing is your recs, you can ask your employers or people you know who are alumni not just professors
@ivanovich I think you have a shot! COLA average GPA for transfers is around a 3.6, the only thing is that you’re out of state which makes it a lot more difficult, otherwise if you were in state I would say you’re 100% in
@mccombsorbust
Does being out of state really make it that much more difficult? Why is that?
@ivanovich I don’t know why it’s harder, I’ve just heard that from word of mouth and from looking through other threads…but I think a 3.9 is very impressive for COLA so you should have a great chance
@mccombsorbust
I’ve heard that UT is required to take a certain percentage of in-state students, but I think that’s only in the Fall. I’m not sure, though, since Google isn’t turning up anything helpful. Although, the number of in-state auto-admits definitely makes admission more competetive for people like me, so there’s that.
Thank you, though! I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Question for Fall 2016 transfer. Are you already submitting your applications? Is it beneficial to do it early (I assume they won’t give a decision w/o spring grades?).
@rach98n
I’m transfering this Spring, but I’ve spent enough time lurking these threads that I think I can provide some insight. I would recommend getting your application in as early as possible. I’ve heard that they review them in the order they’re received, so you have a better chance of being accepted if you submit it ASAP.
Do you think this applies if you won’t have enough hours to transfer w/o spring semester classes?
@rach98n
That’s a tough one… Transfer applicants who’ve already completed 30 hours get priority over those who haven’t, and they usually get their decisions first.
It’s kind of a crap-shoot, honestly. I might wait until you’ve completed 30 hours, because from what I’ve seen that seems like it’s more important to UT. I’m not 100% on that, though.
I’ve heard tell that this is when the first application usually come out. Did anyone get lucky?
My status still reads “Complete/On Time”…
@ivanovich did you mean admission decisions?
@amberlee9
Pfft, yeah, I did.
ivanovich, look at the top of the page when you go to MyStatus. My application says Complete/On Time on the right hand side, but the top of the page says that my application is under review. It used to say: “Your application has been completed” or something similar.
@johnnylawson
It does say “in review” on the top. Is that just because all the applications are in review though? Mine has been that way for some time.
I read on UT’s website that most of the decisions for us transfers will be released in November.
Yeah, but there’s usually the odd person that gets theirs in mid-October. I’ve noticed it in the previous Spring transfer threads.
Yeah mine still says “in review” even though I submitted in August and I’m auto transfer.
