What exactly is going on during spring fling? I read that sonic youth is playing, is it possible for me to get a ticket/get in to the concert? I have a few friends currently at penn, but I have not talked to them about it yet.

What is spring fling...?

http://www.specevents.net/concerts/upcoming.php is the most info I can find

If you have Penn friends, then yeah, it might be possible. I know you need a Penn card to buy tickets, but I'm not sure if you need one to get into the concert too.
true_limp - Spring Fling is Penn's annual weekend of hedonism and debauchery, that mostly involves drinking. And some other stuff, but mostly the drinking. And deep fried oreos.

sounds like lots of fun. two questions though:

i) can us admitted students partake in any of the funness?

ii) how can one deep fry an oreo?!!

you can deep fry anything (afaik)

I need more info on the first though too

You need to go with a friend since they can only buy tickets, not you (as I understand it). Also, you'll need your own accommodations (as I understand it).

but can I get in if they buy me tickets even if I don't have a penn card? can I get in if they just buy me tickets but dont go w/ me?

You got me. :P

Someone more informed than me will answer shortly, I imagine.

Like I said, I'm not sure what the deal is with the concert this year, but if you need a Penn-card holding chaperone, I'll be going :).

According to the DP today:

to get a guest pass, a PennCard holding student has to buy the guest pass, already knowing the name of the guess they are brining.

A Guest needs to be with a valid PennCard holder at all times (or at least to get into the Quad and such)

That being said, I think it's going ot be pretty difficult to get int othe quad as a prospective.. of course, you do go into the quad for the campus tours so if you just happen to fall off the tour.. (soo shouldn't be telling you all that, but if you want to try, go ahead)

Concert is going to be a little harder, but definitely not interested in seeing them myself..

I'm personally very excited for fling (came last year for Previews on wednesday.. and the festivities already seemed to be starting.) However, i'm soo scared to give tours those days.. lol

when is the fling over? im spending sunday (the 17th) night there, so will anything still be going on?

I'm not sure if "Spring Fling" will be going on. But there will certainly be a "Spring Fling" atmosphere, i.e. parties going on.

sweet! yeah, the parties are all i really care about for sunday night

Oh by the way, I just bought the college p rowler guide to upenn, and it listed Spring Fling as #1 in the 'ten best things about penn.' also on the list were joint-degree programs, penn relays, philly, and cheesesteaks

I had a pretty good philly cheesesteak when I was there. It wasn't superb. I think they are overrated.

Actually, by Sunday, most people will be flung over.

Anyone can buy tickets to the fling concert. But it's being held outside in Wynn Commons so I don't know wny you would pay $20 bucks to "see" Sonic Youth when you can just sit on the green and listen to them for free...

Nope. This year it's penn kids only. Apparently the school hates West Philadelphia. Which we knew.

I got a friend to get me a guest pass and concert tickets so hopefully ill be okay. I'm actually sitting in irving auditorium now
