Spring Reception: Dress code?

My daughter is a junior in Magazine Journalism. She’s also a Comm 100 mentor (a freshman class), and a Newhouse peer mentor.

It isn’t a sin to wear jeans, but look presentable for sure. Most kids on the tours wear jeans, but you never know who you’ll meet while you’re visiting, so dress how you want to be seen. I wore jeans and a blazer when I visited. (I wore slacks and blouses to my high school then and I thought – very carefully – I’d fit in better in jeans at college.)

And House of London, look around more. SU has a million different styles. The sorority girls are partial to black leggings, t-shirs, and uggs. A lot of Newhouse/Whitman students dress business casual out of necessity, most are in jeans/leggings. The most popular A&S look is probably jeans and orange t/sweatshirts. At the first sign of fall or spring, everyone suddenly looks much more fashionable than usual – like they just went shopping, or have been planning the outfit all season while they pray for the weather to change. It’s going to be gorgeous this weekend, so expect a lot of sundresses and short-shorts–worn with boots.
