Spring Rush Question

I want to rush in Spring (I'm a fall transfer), but none of my friends want to rush the house I'm specifically looking at. Is it weird if I go to their rush events by myself? I'm pretty cool with a handful of the brothers...

nope, do what’s best for you  you’re the only who would potentially end up in that house, not them, so if you like it, go for it

no! inevitably, you need to pick the house that is right for YOU, not necessarily what is good for your friends. plus, if you are already friendly with the brothers, it shouldnt be awkward for you to walk in alone anyway.

good luck!

If you’re focused on getting a bid to a house, and want to make friends in the house to ensure that you get a bid, why would you even want your old friends tagging along if they had little interest in the house? They’d be distractions. You’re much better off going alone so you concentrate more on bonding with the guys in the house.

Just don’t dump or dis your old friends - you’ll need them - whether or not you decide to join that frat.

what about new houses? would I be weird going to houses where I don’t have any friends who are brothers?

No.

I’ve heard that one of the biggest mistakes people make is pledging a house just cause their friends are doing it.

Pledge where you like the house and you like the brothers.

Question regarding rush week in general-what do each of the frats do besides host parties? Do they have get-to-know events and like, information set up regarding their house during the daytime?

I ask because I’m going to be a new student this spring and orientation week = rush week, so I’m required to go to a few orientation events. I won’t be able to visit the houses I might end up in as often as I’d like, so I wanna make sure there’s face-time, lol.

I think you have a misconception of rush week. I’ll break it down:
In the beginning of the week there is an info session for rush in general, you get a map of the houses across campus and they explain the process. During the day on Tuesday, “smokers” start; these are daytime events where the houses host guys to come over, meet brothers, hang out, eat, and there are often some casual activities (video games, pool, etc.). At the smokers is where you can get invited to a nighttime rush event. Then at night there are rush events, not parties. These rush events mostly involve going fun places, drinking, or various activities.

Just to give you an idea of the type of night events, some of the most memorable/fun stuff from rush that I remember hearing about or taking part in:
-Fiji had afroman come play in their house, which was cool.
-SAE had a formal type thing.
-Psi U had girls dancing on tables with sake bombing.
-Pike had an event called “Bounce” which was amazing.
-TEP had a thing with lots of smoking.
-Many houses did beer pong tournaments
-Other houses rent out bars in the area and bring everyone there to drink for free.

Thanks, yeah I did have a skewed view, because the last time I asked someone how rush week went, they told me just go to the parties, which I thought was kind of a narrow way of getting a bid.

Well that’s awesome, thanks!
