Spring Semester 2007: Questions about Minors

Hi all,

I just looked into USC's Web Registration for the Spring Semester and was considering the ways I'd structure my schedule. The thing is, I might be entering a minor next semester and I'm really not sure how it's going to work.

I'm currently a Business major, planning on entering a Music Performance minor.

My classes so far are (for a total of 19 units):
BUAD-304
ECON-205
GE I
GE II
MUCOAx-130

Next semester, I'll probably be taking (19 units again):
MATH-218
ECON-203
WRIT-140 *** (Why doesn't WRIT-140 show up on the Registration List?) ***
GE VI
MUCOBx-130

Can someone explain to me how minors work in terms of scheduling? I heard that 12 units were devoted to a major and 6 units were devoted to a minor on average. Would I have to take an extra semester or extra classes just to fulfill my requirements (especially GEs)?

Sorry if this is unclear, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

it doesn't matter semester wise how you break up the major and minor classes. You might choose to take 12 units toward the major and 6 units toward the minor, or 4 units toward the major and 14 units towards the minor.

The important thing is that by your target graduation time, you've satisfied all the requirements for your major and (hopefully) for your minor as well. Really they could care less how you break it up, as long as you play by the rules (prerequisites, etc)

WRIT-140 is listed under the "General Education"->"Social Issues" category since you must register for the one that's affiliated with your Cat 6 class.

I plan on taking most of my minor courses in my last semester of college. There's nothing wrong with that.
