D was accepted for Spring 2008 with invitation to start in September in FRESHMAN CONNECTION. What is this all about ? They do not offer dorm accommodation and this is an upset to her. Is this program worth attending and does anyone have experience with it. I need some help here !!!!

i don't know what to say as far as the program goes, but i have a word of advice on housing if your daughter does decide to attend: start looking NOW! those of us who live off-campus have already begun to sign leases for 2007-2008. houses go very quickly (although many have a room or two available; check the off-campus housing website at http://och.umd.edu for info on availabilities). apartments go less quickly but leases are still signed early, for the most part.

last year my housing fell through last minute, and i signed my apartment lease in early june-- i was lucky i found a clean, nice place to live within walking distance of campus.
i just signed my lease last week for my house for next year. as you can see, we start early :)

if your daughter will have all her classes back-to-back (and doesn't need to go to and from campus frequently), this is much less of an issue. there are plenty of nice (though expensive) off-campus housing options within a few-mile radius of UMD, on various shuttle bus routes. but many students don't like the timing of the buses, and would rather be within walking distance of class/downtown college park/etc.

just a piece of advice on the housing aspect :)
