Spring Semester (or Winter quarter) Admits?

Has anyone been admitted to Spring semester (or Winter quarter) instead of Fall?

I saw Cal was doing that a lot last year, and, truth be told, if I get into Cal, I'd almost prefer to be a Spring admit. I could use a semester off before diving headfirst into a UC workload.

What about you guys? Do you want a Spring admit? Would you be happy with one if you got in? Or are Spring admits out of the question for you, and why?

Initially, I thought it’d be cool to be a spring admit at Berkeley. But, I start going crazy when I’m not in school, and from May to late January is WAY too large of a gap. If I am admitted to Berkeley for the Spring, It’ll make choosing UCLA 1,000 times easier.

If I were accepted as a Spring admit I would seriously be disappointed. I want to graduate as soon as possible because my life has been on hold for a long time.

I want to delve right in to the UC…so if by some miracle I am accepted into Cal and if it is as a Spring admit… I would seriously pick UCSD/SB over Cal, of course this is all up to UCLA…if they accept me I will go to UCLA, no doubt.

I see where you all are coming from. I would prefer to be admitted for fall, but i would be OK for spring as well. I do want to hurry up and get college over with… and if you asked me a month or two ago, i would probably gave the same responses as evan and jane… BUT if I was admitted to spring, it would be ok for one main reason: I could get my NP organization running faster than it is, because i’d have more time to work with it. I already planned that if I am not accepted to fall, I am going to work full time on the NPO, and do some work in Africa, India, and Eastern Europe. If I get into fall, I’ll have to hold off these plans until after I graduate ~ 2 years. I’d be ok with waiting too, because then at least I would have a degree (and probably get more sponsoring) and maybe I’d be able to do field work for berkeley’s MA in Journalism program at the same time… so it’s a really tough call!! in the end, I am leaning towards getting in to Fall semester… I just hope i actually get in at all though, haha.

If I got chosen to go spring to berkeley I would go to some spanish speaking country, get myself fluent, and then test out of that requirement for my major.

One of the reasons I’m ok with a Spring admit is because I’d like to be able to quit my job once I transfer to UC so that I can focus both on my schoolwork, and on extracurriculars to make my application to a Ph.D program more appealing.

Getting in for spring semester would give me several months for my husband and I to save up extra money for bills and general savings. I’m almost rooting for a spring admit for me, lol

UCB can do this even if you specifically applied for Fall?? I was so not aware of that.

I think all schools can if they REALLY like you but don’t have room for you to start attending during the fall semester/quarter
