Spring Semester???

I got accepted but not until Spring Semester. Does anyone know what this means? The letter said this is because there are space limitations. Did anyone else get this? Also, if many of the fall admits don't accept their offers will i be bumped up to fall or is this pretty much a denial?

here are my stats

OOS
640 math SAT
690 reading SAT
700 writing SAT
640 French SAT II
660 USH SAT II
4.2 GPA
17/524
Class VP
French Club Pres
Cheer Captain
Honor Society
School TV Station
Leo Club

Your stats are pretty high to not make fall admission. What is your unweighted GPA? How many AP courses have you taken?

@MDdad2012 My unweighted GPA is a 3.8 and i have four AP classes and the rest honors. I got a 4 and 3 on the two APs i took junior year. I also volunteer with the police athletic league and the community food cupboard i forgot to add that.

Scratching my head on this one. I think you should have been a fall admit.

Thanks you. I’m still confused as to what it means to be a spring admit. I mean at least it’s not a denial. I’m not sure if i can be bumped up of space opens up.

I think you should call admissions to see if they made a mistake.

OOS clearly hurt you. Are you from NJ/NY or International?

Still seems a bit odd. Worth a phone call though!

I’m going to call tomorrow I live in PA about 2.5 hours away from umd and it was my first choice. I’m hoping they made a mistake.

1330/1600 is definitely in range to be a fall admit. Seems like it is either a mistake or your essay’s really offended someone!

I hope my essays weren’t offensive! I wrote about meeting my Friends from France when I was young and the language barrier.

Yeah, the essays are the only thing I could think of, but I doubt that is it. It is harder to get in OOS, but your stats are great. Were any parts of your application late? transcript, letters, SAT, etc.

@TaylorRae428,

You have great stats, however, UMd literally gets thousands of apps from NY, NJ, and PA. With less than 25% of the seats going to OOS, it makes it ultra competitive for the students from these three states.

There is a waitlist, but if you were being offered a spot, there would have been a message in your notification about it.

Best of luck.

Does everyone get an option to enroll into the spring semester after not being admitted into the fall semester or just qualified applicants? How does that work and how many students do they accept into the program? anybody know? Thanks

I was accepted to the Spring Semester too. @onesmart kid, not everyone gets admitted to spring semester if they were rejected for fall…it is only for qualified applicants and is basically an acceptance, just not right away.

I’m thinking about doing the Freshman Connection program in the fall. After doing research, it is basically the same thing as being admitted to the freshman semester. You can’t live in campus housing, but there is an apartment right off campus that is specially designed for Freshman Connection students where about 300 of them live. Also, classes are between 3-9 pm Monday-wed (i think) and 8-4pm on Fridays. You can still participate in all UMD activities and you are taking classes that will go on your transcript. Besides class timings and living off campus, there is virtually no difference!

Anyone else considering going for freshman connection?

Yea my stats are pretty similar to yours. 1390/1600 SAT, 31 ACT, top 10% and I live in Maryland. I got put in for spring semester too and I’m not really sure why.

I guess there is truth to Maryland getting more competitive every year… 1390 in state and spring semester? Were your grades poor?

I just found out today that collegeboard never got my sats so I’m submitting an appeal

Good luck! I hope you get in.

@Terpguy No I had all A’s exempt for a single B. Took 2 AP classes last year and 2 this year. I got 4’s on both those AP tests.

I would call admissions. They might not have received an important piece of information.
