Spring Sorority Formal

Hello,

I am a guy and go to an Ivy League school. I have been asked to one of the sororities spring formal, and I am not sure what to wear. My date has asked and was told a suit, does anyone know if a blazer and khakis (obviously with a tie and all) would cut it? I don't want her to have to harass her sorority by clarifying everything and asking again. If anyone knows please advise.

For formal I wouldn’t go khakis, you should probably wear a full suit.

I agree with maizeandblue.

Go buy a suit.
J Crew has nice ones.
Buy some black shoes.
Again, J Crew.

It depends on how popular the sorority is. But seeing as you go to an Ivy I would go tux or suit.

while you can’t go wrong with a suit, I wouldn’t assume. My ivy league frat formals frequently had people in blue blazers and khakis with a tie. One sorority’s “formal” was even less formal with guys often not wearing blazers or ties.

If you don’t own a suit and you can’t afford to go buy one for time or money reasons, have her ask at least an older sister or two if you would look out of place wearing what you described. It’s not a huge deal.

She ended up clarifying for me… it’s a suit. Not a blazer and khakis.

Thanks everyone!
