There is no need to retake the SAT. He has a 35 on the ACT. National Merit will now also be using the ACT in determining Merit scholars. Save his time and your money on something else.
@chb088 There are a slew of fine large public universities in the south & midwest that offer thousands of dollars in merit scholarships to out-of-state applicants.
The main variable determining the amount of the aid is SAT or ACT scores. Of course the impact of these scholarships is felt more if the original sticker price is modest, sometimes making the net price (after scholarship $ is subtracted from sticker price) LESS THAN what students might be paying in-state at their home -state publics.
I continue to be confused by why you are suggesting UTk, VT, & NFCU, as they all have some combination of high sticker prices, high net prices, & low/no merit aid to out of staters. Whereas there are multiple colleges at the same general level of quality that have some combination of low sticker price, low net price, & high scholarships for oos students.
Like: U South Carolina, FL State, Alabama, Mississippi., MS State, Nebraska, Kan. State, Kansas, Iowa State, Tx Tech, W. Va., Oklahoma, Ok State, South Florida, Kentucky etc.
@moooop Let it drop already! OP was asking for suggestions! I made some! Geez!
