Spring Transfer Questions

First, I was wondering if anyone has any information on how difficult it would be to transfer to Emory in the Spring. Additionally, does anyone know if one gets rejected for Spring admission, are they still allowed to apply for fall admission? Finally is transferring into Emory College much easier than transferring directly into the Business school(assuming one has met all of the prerequisites).

I asked the transfer director this question and he said that if you get rejected for spring, you can reactivate your application for fall admissions.

from what i gather it difficult to transfer into the business school directy from another college owning to the ease, 80%, with which they let their own in

What other schools are you applying to, Ryan?

For Spring, probably just Emory, UVA, and Northwestern. I've been accepted to UVA before but didn't go for financial reasons. If I don't get into any of those schools I will reapply for Fall to more places.

Emory is my top choice for a number of reasons -- it has a competitive business program; has a good name; is close to home(I grew up in Alpharetta); and I have some friends there(including my girlfriend).

My concerns center around the whole "JAP culture" stereotype; the supposed lack of intellectualism; and the lack of a connection with the Northeast. However, both of those things exist at the current school I go to and probably at a much more extreme level. None of the people that I know personally at Emory exhibit any of those negative characteristics, so it won't be a problem.

It is very important for me to be successful, but it is also important for me to find a place where I will be very happy.

I applied, as transfer, to both Northwestern and Emory as well. Was accepted to both, and after visiting, chose Emory. Northwestern may be slightly more prestigious, but I enjoyed Emory a great deal more and the difference between the two schools academically is negligible. Cant go wrong with UVA either.

When I visited Emory the summer before my sophomore year in high school (for a program that happened to be held there), I fell in love with the campus-- it's much nicer than Northwestern's. Its gender studies department also ranks in the top 10 in that prominent ranking that assesses faculty research and output. What I plan to do is choose the interdisciplinary track and propose a concentration that will combine that gender studies with anthropology and sociology (gender studies is interdisciplinary anyway). Finally, I have relatives nearby, so I could spend summers there if I want to. Good luck on your applications.

How easy is it to get around Atlanta using public transportation? Do you know if the bus runs frequently to/from Emory?

There are two different buses you can get on at Emory that will take you to MARTA rail stations and from there you can get anywhere in the city...for $1.75. If you're not particular about which bus to take, you'll never wait more than 15 minutes or so (less time than it takes to get a cab and ten times cheaper).

I found out that I got into Emory today! I'M SUPER EXCITED. Did you guys end up applying?

that fast? well congrats!

I heard that emory doesn't require the ACT score once you have over 30 credits in college, is this true?

I based my decision to submit mine on the Emory Transfer Application, which says:

"Test Scores
All applicants are required to submit scores, taken within the
last five years, from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the
American College Test (ACT). If you have not taken the SAT
or ACT within the last five years, you may arrange to do so
through the Educational Testing Service office in your area."

Of course, the waiver for students who have 30+ credits could be an unwritten rule. Call and ask to make sure.

Btw, Ryan, did you apply to Northwestern for winter?

I'm waiting for my financial aid package. Hopefully, it'll arrive soon...

I actually only decided to apply to the Business School at Emory for Spring/Winter. I'm fine with where I am at now and only want to transfer if the situation is right.

Earlier I was thinking I would do something related to theoretical economics, now I am definitely Finance track.

Anyway, I haven't received my decision yet. I hear they only accept about 4-5 transfers for Spring into the business school so I am not overly optimistic.
