Spring Transfer Safeties

Hello,

I'm looking to transfer for the spring '13 semester and am looking for safety schools. I decided to ask on CC, since I've discovered a lot of great places through you guys and would love to get to know some more.

My stats are:

4.0 GPA in college, 3.72 in HS
2170 SAT -- 800 W, 700 CR, 670 M

My criteria:

-- Preferably in the South/Texas or Northeast, but Midwest is fine, too
-- A city environment would be cool, but more like Georgetown or Rice, where the school has its own clear territory; definitely not something like GWU or NYU.
-- A social life centered around campus happenings, but with some activities outside of the student world, too
-- An involved student body both academically and socially, where students actually like to learn (and more than 25 - 50% of kids actually show up for classes)
-- Accessible research opportunities for undergrads
-- Greek life would be nice, but it's not necessary
-- A relatively conservative student body (think SMU or UGA) would be nice, but overall an apolitical feel; no in your face rallies or an overwhelming political ideology permeating campus (think Hillsdale)
-- Please don't suggest any of the Colleges That Change Lives Schools; some of my friends go to those and they're too coddling for my liking

What can you afford.

You would not likely get much/any aid as a transfer…especially a SPRING transfer.

Are you an incoming frosh? Where are you going this fall? If you don’t like where you’re going, then don’t enroll. Don’t lose your incoming frosh standing if you need aid.

I’m not an incoming student; I finished my first year of college. After giving my school a year, I decided it’s not for me.

Well, what can you afford? What will your parents pay.

You’re not going to get much/any aid as a Spring transfer.

Affordability isn’t an issue, but I’d prefer not to pay a premium price on a less than steller school, i.e. 60k+ on a school like George Wythe or something.

You may have better luck applying as a junior transfer for fall 2013, since many schools which do accept larger numbers of transfers (often state universities) have more openings in the fall and favor those who will be juniors. Of course, this means that you need to be ready to declare your major or as close as you can be to declaring your major by then. What major(s) are you interested in?

English, cognitive science, history, and econ. The school I’m looking for doesn’t need to have all of those, as is the case with cogs; I’d be happy with any of them.

English, history, and economics are common majors, although strength of department and subareas of emphasis within the subjects do vary. Will you be close to ready to declare any of the majors? Transfer admissions at many schools depends on your major; in that case, they want to see that you have a realistic chance of completing the major without delaying graduation, and admissions selectivity may vary between majors.

Yes, all my pre-reqs are done, and I’m taking electives this semester. I’m just looking for a few sure schools to add to my list at this point.
