My daughter has applied to transfer to Tulane for Spring Semester. They have told her that her H.S. transcript is strong enough for admission but they want to see her first semester grades. Unfortunately they will not be available until December 24th and Tulane will be closed then and not reopen until Jan 5. They said she would have an answer shortly thereafter, but classes begin on Jan 12. Do you think it is possible they will offer her admission so close to the beginning of second semester or will they defer her to fall 09? How is she supposed to leave the school she is in and move in to Tulane on such a tight schedule?

this seems like a serious situation, one that i would not leave to a bunch of kids on a messageboard...if you havent already, i would go ahead and notify them of your situation so theyre not sitting on their hands waiting for your daughters grades and that you are both clear on what's what

my two cents however

if they are waiting on your daughters first semester grades however, i would think they are prepared to admit her very close to the opening of classes, hard to imagine they wouldnt know that they wont get your daughters grades until very late

thats what tulane did?? wow... that stinks - i was going to apply there but i got into Umich and it's a heck of a lot cheaper - travel and tuition... I would think that if it gets down to things and you tell them they may be lenient and just ask for an unofficial grade report - i am applying to ND as well and they are supposed to give decisions on dec 1st but my grades are not out till the 20th - Umich starts the 7th and they just told me to send them an email stating what my grades are. --- hopefully it will work out for your daughter and for me... i really want to go to Nd... Tulane though has that appeal of warmth... ahh - given we have a few inches of snow in MI now makes me reconsider my choices

The unofficial grade report sounds like a good idea (if they agree to this). I would call, explain the situation, and see if this would be an option (at this point in the semester, the professors/your d probably have a pretty good of final grades). If they don't agree, see if you can get some kind of assurance (written, ideally) that, pending a good grade report, your d will be accepted (so you/she can start to plan ahead). If they don't agree to any kind of written assurance, depending on how important it is for your d to leave, you might want to consider waiting until fall semester.

i had a friend that dealt with this last year with ND. She was only transferring across the street though and found out two weeks into spring semester that she got in... kinda funny but it happens.
