Spring Transfers 2010

wow- thats amazing, your achievements i mean.
do you mind me asking how old you are?
I’m probably going to build my concentration around journalism and north korean politics (and how news stories about north korean politics are reported by major news industries).
something along those lines- i hope to become a broadcast journalist in the future.
i also hope ill be able to take advantage of gallatin and the internship opportunities.
for you, the fact that you can do a major proportion of your studies outside of school is probably the best thing about gallatin.
for me, its the internship opportunities and the fact that i can take any classes at nyu - stern, cas, steinhardt!

Thanks :D. I just turned 21 a month ago. Yea Gallatin’s flexibility is what attracted me to the program in the first place on top of the fact that it’s within NYU and within NYC. Though NYU is expensive I definitely think it’s going to be a worthwhile investment as I believe I’m definitely going to be able to grow my ventures exponentially over the coming years by moving to NYC and being able to integrate it with my education. The fact that we can take classes not only in the other undergraduate schools within NYU but also some graduate level classes will also ensure that I’m continually challenged academically, and I can utilize what i learn in the real world immediately through my work life. Specifically at the moment I’m hoping to take some Health Policy classes in Steinhard and hopefully some classes in the ITP program within Tisch on top of the Stern undergraduate classes I plan on taking, however this is bound to change if i choose to alter my concentration. Also, I’m hoping i can pull some interns from NYU and NYU-Poly ;P. Your major actually seems quite interesting, and being in NYC I’m sure you’ll be able to find a ton of internships within the media industry! I see that it’s only fair that I ask you your age as well :P, do you have any specific schools within NYU that you’re looking at taking classes at?

i’m twenty- turning 21 in march!
umm… i actually sent an email to the gallatin transfer academic advisor- Rahul and talked to him about some of the requirements and so on.
I think I’m going to have to take the Calculus I to fulfil my mathematics requirement.
I’d love to take an Econ class at CAS, marketing at Stern, journalism classes from CAS.
Outside of class, I want to take speech/speaking skills class to develop my skills as an eloquent broadcast journalist!
But there’s apprently a 4 class requirement - units within Gallatin that we must complete.

BTW- what is NYU Poly???

Do you mind sharing stats??
Here are mine: SAT I = about 1860
College gpa= 3.5
-academic scholarship of $40,000 throughout high school
-award during college for $500
-college newspaper
-college student ambassador

there’s a public speaking class in my major, media/culture/communications in Steinhardt. it’s supposed to be really useful for developing eloquence.

has anyone been accepted and NOT received their “package” in the mail yet?

I was accepted a week ago. still nothing.

BMWdude335: Did you call NYU admissions and see what’s going on?

ihatemonash:

Last year in July of 2008 Polytechnic University officially affiliated itself with NYU to become it’s exclusive resource in engineering and applied science. It’s my understanding that NYU wants to have a stronger engineering and applied sciences program so over the next year or two they are merging the schools into one.

SAT I = 2090
College GPA= 3.7

missamericanpie- thanks for that! do u know the exact name of the class or the code number??

bmwdude- how did you know you were accepted then?? did they tell you via e-mail? are you an international? if you are, they probably sent it via ups and you can ask for a tracking number.

bhagman- great efforts! hope to see you at orientation (if i make it for orientation…)

it’s in the Media, Culture, Communications department. it starts with E59, somethingsomethingsomething. but it’s definitely called “Public Speaking”.

hey
you mentioned in your prevoius post something about pulling interns, and i was wondering if there’s any chance my friend can apply for an internship/employment at your IT firm? He’s graduating soon with a bachelor’s degree in IT, and he would love to be considered for an opportunity to work/intern in this field.
btw- do you have a site for the international design/it firm that you co-founded?

BMWdude335: I was also accepted last week and notified via email, but still have yet to receive my package in the mail. I called admissions last Friday and they said they sent out emails before the packages (even though the email makes it sound like you should have already received it) and that it would be coming within the next week. I went to NYU to visit this week and came back to find that I still have no package. I’m semi-officially stressing out, but the people at admissions seem pretty relaxed about the whole. I might call again tomorrow. Let me know if you receive yours.

Just kidding. Received my packet today. Being accepted is the best feeling ever, by the way. I’m officially going to NYU in about 22 days, I’m in shock. Happily in shock. :)

^nasty ashy. LOL.

but yea got my packet tday. it’s all good. living on campus (even tho I live like 30 miles away). lovee my rents for that

see u all at in the spring. ull def see and hear about me. no doubt about tht :)

So I got my official packet and whatnot on Dec. 18th, dated Dec. 14th. I accepted the offer and sent in my check the next day, Dec. 19th. I believe they closed their offices Dec. 24th and they aren’t reopening until Jan. 4th. So I’m wondering what I’m supposed to about housing. I don’t think they got my check before they left for winter break otherwise I would have been notified by housing by now. I’m trying not to panic but if they don’t get in until the 4th and I’m supposed to move in the 10th – all the way from California, mind you – how am I supposed to not panic? Is anyone in the same boat as me? I guess I’m just supposed to hope they know what they’re doing…? Any thoughts?

i got my acceptance initially in an email. i immediately logged in and filled out a very basic housing application online. then week later, i got the packet, and submitted deposit, i think i got an email or i mightve just went back to the housing application and did it again but it was more comprehensive now with questionnaires.

if you sent your deposit as 800, then i think its automatic you get housing.

go to the residential webpage and check out the housing app. for me, it originally said waitlist student, but now it says transfer undergraduate. i havent received any confirmation about specifics outside of my application being complete. im not worried tho. i dont live as far as california tho.

try calling the bursar or financial aid. there might be a skeleton crew of people there, even though classes aren’t in session.

Hey everyone!

So about 5 days ago, I started my housing application but I didn’t finish it. Today I logged on to finish it, but I can only access about 3 of the tabs (gender identification, low cost housing…) When I try getting to my housing preferences it says “section is closed!” I didn’t even fill out the roommate questionnaire. Isn’t the deadline the 4th? Is anyone else having issues with the housing app?
