Spring Transfers

Hey. Does anyone have any insight into the likelihood of being accepted as a spring transfer? I know they only admit a very small percentage of students in the spring. I'm trying to transfer from a liberal arts college with a 3.67 GPA and a few extra curriculars. I was also waitlisted the first time around when I applied last year as a first year student.

Another prospective spring transfer here! Is there anyone else who applied for spring admission?

I applied! Anyone know when they will post decisions?

No idea… I was skimming through some other threads, but for the most part, they seem to be more fall transfer based. I have a feeling the spring transfers are few…? That might just be wishful thinking on my part lol.

Hey guys! I heard from the admissions office that we should know around the 12th - 15th of December. Also, they told me that they don’t use a quota system so it’s not necessarily harder to get in in the Spring than it is in the Fall transfer application, it’s just that normally less people apply for the Spring — That seems like it’s hard to believe though, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for it to be true! I wish you all the best of luck!

What year are you all and where are you trying to transfer from? I’m a second year at Hampshire College.

Great to hear from everyone! I’m trying to transfer in my first year, also from one of the five colleges-- not sure what to expect/hope for. Do you know if the decisions are posted on banner web?

What’s everyone majoring in?

I’m planning on Psychology with a minor in Computer Science and I’m coming from a liberal arts college in Texas.

I think we’ll be sent letters…? I was reading a few other threads and they mentioned phone calls, so that could be interesting. I think I’ll probably keep hounding the admissions office until they release their decisions though. Such is life.

From what I understand, @iyeras, Smith no longer calls people. They stopped doing that in like 2013 or something.

@TiredQuibbler‌; Oh, that’s fine then. I’d prefer to get an e-mail or something else, anyway haha.
Did anyone find out about BannerWeb being the place to receive the decisions?

It will be on BannerWeb on the same page that lists the materials they’ve received. I believe you get an email telling you the results are up, but in previous years sometimes the results were up before the email was sent out so I’d advise to just check it often on the 15th!

Iyeras - the CS courses at Smith are really great! And there’s a lot of options for a CS minor too, they have several different types instead of just a standard one so you can choose to minor in programming, theory, or something like computers and languages, etc.

I’m intending on majoring in Middle Eastern Studies. It would have to be an self-designed major, but if that was impossible I would go for Gov.

Hey everyone, I just got an email saying that they would tell transfers about their results on the 12th at 6 PM instead of the 15th! I’m so relieved, but 6 is so late in the day!

I’m also applying as a spring transfer! I got the email as well. I agree, it’s going to be torture waiting all day!

What other schools have you all applied to?

I only applied to Smith. I didn’t want to take a chance with schools that I hadn’t taken classes at yet or been on campus because I couldn’t know if I would find the same problems there or not that I have at my current school. If I don’t get into Smith I will make my current school work, but I’ll be pretty disappointed!

@HampshireStudent‌ Yes, I’ve heard the same! Very excited about their CS program. I’m a bit of a novice and my experience has mostly been outside of school, since my current university doesn’t offer a CS degree, but…
Yeah I got the e-mail. Very excited and more nervous than I can even tell. I’m glad they don’t mail rejections though. I don’t think I want physical proof of that disappointment haha.
Oh, also, @bkworm3‌ I applied to Smith and a local university with a larger campus. They basically have nothing to do with each other, but I was really drawn to what Smith had to offer, so it’s a bit of an outlier.

How did everyone do? Does anyone know hoe flexible smith are with transfer credit? Hope we all got in :)

are any of you transferring next semester?

I got into smith, but I’m not sure which college I’ll be transferring to yet as I’m still waiting on another letter. I’m not sure about the transfer credits, sorry.

@rm0004 I am transferring in the Spring - supposed to be a second semester sophomore, but I’ll be a first sem sophomore until I speak to them. Will you be transferring?
