Spring Visit Weekend

Is Spring Vis for top applicants or just because you’re a minority?

I think that it is for top minority applicants.

I’m wondering this too. I was a minority invited to Spring Viz. There was also a Middle Eastern student invited that I saw on a social media page. Anyone else?

According to the FAQ page, Spring Viz is meant for students who may not have had the opportunity to explore ND or because they want to become more diverse. So while minorities are offered spots, I would imagine that those with financial struggles would also be invited. Here is the link: http://admissions.nd.edu/spring-visit-weekend/faqs/

Ok, so I’ve already been admitted REA and was invited. I received a physical invitational letter after my email invitation and it says… “Congratulations once again on your admission to UND! Participants at Spring Visit Weekend are selected from among the best of our applicant pool. All travel costs, meals, and…” etc. From looking through CC posts and the actual Spring Visit site, it doesn’t mention anything about candidacy and just “diversity” reasons.
Oh, and I know that this may make me sound pry, but I was just curious, that’s all haha.

“As part of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Spring Visit Weekend program broadens cultural and socioeconomic diversity at the University of Notre Dame. Many of the prospective students that are invited will be among the first in their family to graduate from college, and we want to ensure that they see all that Notre Dame has to offer.”

“Broadens cultural and socioeconomic diversity”

Your phrasing “Is Spring Vis for top applicants or just because you’re a minority?” is quite condescending. Having attended February’s spring visit, I can attest that no one was invited “just because they were a minority.” While the program was focused on diversity recruitment (and ALL types of diversity, I am not a minority and attended), there was no lack of academic and extra-curricular excellence among attendees.

@ny2020 Sorry about that; I agree. I was rushing while typing this thread so I wasn’t aware of how condescending this post seemed afterwards.

How was your experience overall? What kind of ‘diversity’ activities did ND prepare for you guys?

@blessupman No offense taken.

I had a great time, despite having been to campus already before. It wasn’t too heavily diversity focused, we mostly just got exposed to each part of ND (our respective colleges, faith at ND, got tickets to a sporting event, had some student panels). More so just insight into the school/campus than on the diversity aspect.
