Hey everybody! I'm about to be a freshman in college, but unfortunately I was wait-listed and rejected from Tulane. I was wondering if they're any major differences in applying to transfer in as a second semester freshman as opposed to getting a full year under my belt and applying then. Also, I am curious to know if one is recommended over the other? Thanks!

I am not sure if there is much advantage to one over the other in general, but if you only have one semester at your other school to show them I would think that might not help all that much. But my main point, actually, is that to the extent students transfer from Tulane and open up space for others to transfer in, I would think that would mostly be after the freshman year, not after only a semester. Now I certainly could be wrong and surprised about that, but just on general observation I don’t think so. It really looks to me like most students make it a year before deciding (or being forced) to attend elsewhere. So if I am right about that, transferring to start your 2nd year at Tulane would seem more likely to be successful.

But there is an admissions counselor at Tulane responsible for all transfer admissions. I wouldn’t be shy about calling them up and asking the question directly. Nothing wrong with that. It is a fair question.
