I know that like sqrt x^2= abs value x, but does the math II test assume this for all values relating to sqrts? there are situations in which the sqrt of something can be positive, or negative, i believe, so in those situations, what do i do?

Well, if you have, say x^2 = 4, then x = -2 and +2. So if the question gives you three choices, being x = -2, x = 2, and x = -2 or 2, take the third choice.
