Squeeze in these classes before MCAT?

I'm trying to decide which courses I should stuff in before taking my MCAT and which ones just to leave for senior year:

Human Physiology
Cell Biology
Microbiology
Biochemistry
Analytical Chemistry
Genetics

Any help would be appreicated, thanks.

If you have to pick… I’d go with Genetics. Really, none are needed.

^Agreed. Genetics would probably be the most helpful.

Genetics or physiology.

so if none are needed before the MCAT, which would be most helpful or which would be most beneficial in medical school?

MCAT, as stated above, genetics and/or physiology
Med school- some schools require biochemistry before matriculation (preferably not the chemistry oriented one)

so cell biology and micro biology are probably unnecessary classes?
I am a cognitive science major but I was planning to take them anyway.

Not probably - definitely. I had the bare minimum of pre-med classes under my belt when I took the MCAT. I had no problem doing well.

I’m glad I found this out. That’s good to know

I’ve heard a great deal of people say that Biochemistry was extremely helpful to discern information on the passages in the MCAT.

Next question:

Which of these are the LEAST useful for the MCAT (preferrably in order).

Thanks

I’ve seen that a couple of times and can’t disagree more, but I have seen multiple people say it. (Shrugs)

I only recommend Genetics because apparently it’s trending towards having more genetics passages. However, speaking for my particular exam, it might as well have been “Biological Verbal”, it was basically straight reading comprehension. I think I could’ve done just as well on those passages without studying.

so if ur in a program where u can AP out of intro level courses for bio, chem, physics, u can still do well by just self-studying the material from the MCAT prep books?

i guess same question applies to ochem, meaning if u weren’t done w/ the ochem sequence at school before taking the MCAT, u could still learn everything from the prep books?

For any ONE of those, a really smart kid could probably manage it. Not for all of them.

Hmm. For my undergrad, Analytical Chemistry is the equivalent of General Chemistry II so it is a requirement haha…
I think that the least helpful one would be Microbiology. Cell Biology can help you remember some things from General Biology I, but like everyone said, no class is really necessary for MCAT I think.
