Squeezing Out More Grant $

I visited CMU last week, and loved it. So many interesting departments (Decision Science FTW). Awesome student body. Great campus. Nice and geeky. Intriguing dichotomy between drama and science.

BUT. Right now, CMU is nigh impossible to afford for me. They gave me about $17,500 in grant money. And even after the projected government loans, work study, etc. that the aid office puts on the aid results, I would still have to pay about $28,000 a year.

I already tried appealing, but they didn't change anything. I sent in offers from other schools. The best one was Tufts (my other top choice) with $37,500 in grant money. Is it worth calling the aid office, and telling them that I absolutely want to commit, but can't necessarily afford it? Is there any way at all to get a bit more money from CMU?

I would call again. Doing nothing is not really a viable option.

You should definitely try to call or send them a letter. They can and do adjust grant money/scholarships, but it really has to do with your family situation.
