Hi, I have been accepted into UT and I applied as soon as I could for SRD. I mailed everything overnight, and everything (including the $750 application fee, contract, etc) arrived before/on January 30th. My friend got in and listed me as her roommate, and I put the same room assignments she did and listed her as my roommate. I got #40 on the waitlist, but she got in. What should I do? I don’t know if it would help that my great grandfather was a mason.
Don’t worry. Did they give you any indication of how many On the waitlist usually get in? My guess is you will clear the waitlist before summertime. April 10, I believe, is the date for people to notify SRD that they want out of the contract.
Thank you so much! I hope to get off the waitlist soon. They indicated last year they cleared the waitlist all the way to #50, but the year before last it was only to #10.
I think some girls apply a year or two early? I think I applied while I was in 10th grade, many moons ago.
Also, girls may be applying who 1) have not been accepted to UT yet; and 2) may not have definitely decided on UT yet. Some that are ahead of you will go to other universities and the list will move.
SRD allows future residents to apply when they are in high school. This date is important for room selection, but not for getting into SRD. To get a room at SRD, you need to return your contract (with deposit, roommate agreement, etc.) as quickly as possible - preferably by the next morning after contracts go out. I’m sure you realize this now. I’m just stating this information for anyone reading this thread in the future.
As others have noted, SRD keeps a waitlist and they will notify you if a spot becomes available. Good luck - hope you get in!
For future threads … I am a TexasEx and we paid our daughter’s deposit in March of 2019 (her freshman year after we toured Scottish Rite Dorm / SRD & she said she liked it - it’s not for everyone!) She received her acceptance into UT Class of 2026 last week. We received the SRD contract automatically via email on Feb 1. We immediately returned it priority overnight and it arrived at SRD on Feb 2 (before 8am - thank you UPS!) We received email confirmation of her room & parking today - Feb 3. Well worth paying the deposit years in advance, even if some of it is non-refundable. We would have considered it a donation if it didn’t work out. So thankful it did Hope this helps future Longhorns \m/
SRD charges a $250 application fee. This amount covers a $50 non-refundable application fee, along with a $200 fully-refundable security deposit. If your daughter does not attend UT or chooses not to live at SRD, you will only be out $50. This is cheap insurance for a wonderful home away from home in Austin!
SRD is celebrating its 100th anniversary in October and I plan on being there! I have so many fond memories. But yes, it’s not for everyone. My younger sister moved out after one year. We are very different, ha.
