SSA + Hutton Honors

Got an email yesterday to fill out SSA and it noted it was due to being considered for additional scholarship related to Hutton Honors College yet have not heard at all regarding any official offer/acceptance into HHCollege.

While it is certainly exciting, it is also a weird way to possibly learn that this news is on the horizon.

Anyone else have this or other specific colleges at IU noted in an email from IU Office of Scholarships?

If you have the stats to be directly admitted to the Honors College (https://hutton.indiana.edu/admissions/prospective-freshmen.html )then you will be listed as someone who can be considered for these scholarships.

Again, if you have the stats for things like the honors college or direct admission programs, then you are 100% guaranteed to be admitted to them. So in a way it’s kind of weird, but any official “acceptance” email is more of a formality than anything.

@ryders3 it certainly is weird when you know you meet criteria for say HH and Kelley to even utter a word without the school officially telling you. finding that mention of HH in yet another IU email was surely not exciting. additionally, to keep getting check out Kelley emails if you are interested when you applied to it and met the criteria is also, weird.

My daughter was directly admitted to her program and invited to apply for SSA, but her ACT score was 1 point below the honors college direct admit. I am not familiar with how this works. I saw that you can petition for honors college by sending in a personal statement and additional teacher recommendation. If you are directly admitted to a program, should she also petition to be admitted to honors college. She wouldn’t be eligible for honors college scholarship (not being a direct admit). In other words, can you be directly admitted to a program and admitted to honors college, and is it valuable to do both?

Based on my research on Kelley School of Business:
It appears that one can be a direct admit (Kelley as an example) and in Honors classes. Being in both gives your daughter the advantage of taking Honors levels courses in her current program which can be a GPA Booster.
College confidential might have some more info based on the program she chose.

You will get an Honors College admissions email about 6 weeks after your initial admission email regarding general admissions. Somewhere in between that time the SSA will come because of your initial application, so if you applied near the Nov. 1 deadline you should be getting an email soon. However, check to make sure your test scores and GPA meet Hutton requirements, because I think they just say you’re considered for scholarships by default (??). If you want to know your HHC status right away you can probably call and get the office to tell you. Good luck!
