I'm applying to Florida State and University of Florida and they both have adopted the SSAR system. However, both schools have different directions for filling out the SSAR. For example, FSU asked students to omit non-core academic courses while U of F asks for all courses. FSU also asks to drop + and - 's on grades and simply convert all your number grades to letter grades while U of F doesn't. You would think you'd have to create two whole different SSAR's just for each school but in FSU's FAQ for "Can my SSAR be used by multiple colleges/universities?" the website it says, "Currently, only Florida State University and the University of Florida are utilizing the SSAR. Once you complete your SSAR, you provide the SSAR ID Number to either institution to give them access to your data." Which implies that you'd only have to fill it out once! I'm really confused and upset especially since almost all of my grades are in the 90-92 range and will all be counted as B's. Any advice? At this point I just want to submit my grades using numbers so all my hard work isn't wasted because I couldn't get an extra percent or two in each class. What would you do?

FSU’s website FAQ says:

“How do I enter my grades if my school uses pluses/minuses?”

Pluses and minuses are not used in the admission review process and cannot be entered in the SSAR. Grades will be reported as A, B, C, D, and F. For example, grades of B+ and B- are treated as a B grade, and should be denoted on the SSAR as a B.

But anyone who has been on the SSAR website knows they allow different options for inputting grades as shown here after scrolling down some http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/sar.html#five

Contact FSU admissions for answers to your SSAR questions! It’s a changing process, and what some of us did last year (for UF) may not apply this year. You may also want to contact UF’s to get clarity on UF’s stance. If both are using the same SAR (and that may not be the case), and they want you to input the grades differently, ask (via e-mail) for both to clarify the conflict.

This is new to FSU (and only the 2nd year at UF), so these type of issues may show up. Luckily you have time for the schools to work through it, before you have to submit the SSAR.

Finally, keep in mind that FSU will know the grade scale used at your high school and will take that into account when reviewing your GPA.

Good Luck!!

UPDATE

I called the FSU office today and they told me that you input whichever form of grade your schools transcript uses (numbers, letters, etc.) I hope that’s true even though their website states otherwise.

I about had a heart attack.

and thank you @gator88NE you’re always a big help with my problems :)

I’m filling out SSAR and it gives pretty specific instructions that match the FAQ at FSU

If your high school uses numerical grades, you must convert to A-F grades based on your high school grading scale.

If your high school uses pluses and minuses, they will not be factored in the GPA and cannot be entered on the SSAR. Grades will be reported as A, B, C, D, and F, so grades of B+ and B- are treated as a B grade.

and your link above at UFL also gives the same information:

Q: How do I enter my grades if my school uses pluses/minuses?
Pluses and minuses are not used in the admission review process and cannot be entered in the SSAR. Grades will be reported as A, B, C, D, and F, so grades of B+ and B- are treated as a B grade, and should be denoted in the SSAR as a B.

They are all consistent as far as I can find, only the FSU office has said. I would be VERY wary of not triple checking that info. People can be real inefficient and you could be steared wrong.

Good luck. I’m still trying to figure out EXACTLY what constitutes an “academic” class.

Yeah your right. both fsu and uf changed their apps to the new system a couple days after I posted and changed their FAQ’s accordingly. The lady i talked to was misunderstood. thanks

BTW, since you seem to be researching this pretty carefully, do you know where they draw the line between “academic” and non-academic classes? Some are obvious (P.E., drivers ed, etc.) but what about an elective “Psych 1” class or “History of Vietnam” ?

go ahead and list your classes and i’ll pick out the ones that are considered “academic core classes”

Can I add UF to my ssar college list??
I’m applying to FSU and they require SSAR, SSAR I think has a glitch or something is wrong with their system. It’s not letting me choose 11th grade for basically all my subjects. What can I do ?
Please don’t post to old threads.
