SSAT Math Score Effecting Application

I got a high 70's math score on the SSAT. I got a 93 overall and did well on the reading and verbal. In school, I generally get B+s and A-s in math. I was wondering if anyone who has gone through the admissions process with a math score similar to mine can answer a question for me. Do you think your low math score affected you results?

I had an even lower math score and verbal score and overall score. The only good thing in mine was reading. This in no way reflected my actual skills in these subjects. I got accepted into the school I wanted, but also rejected by some others. This for me probably had to do with my overall not-so-wonderful (think high seventies) score, and my need for financial aid.

Your overal score is amazing and schools will understand that your SSAT score in a certain area doesn’t necessarally reflect your abilities. I wouldn’t worry. If the rest of your application is strong, it shouldn’t be a problem.

@SamanthaWasHere,
Thanks for your response. I’m glad that you understand my situation. I’m pretty nervous as a FA applicant, so I’m gad someone else was accepted with a low SSAT score. What school did you decide to attend?

Samantha’s at Emma Willard, from what i recall.

i’m not sure if it was you i gave the advice to, but someone else was in a similar dilemma – high scores in everything but math. honestly, a high 70s score in math is not too bad; math scores are horribly skewed and i’m sure schools are aware of this. if you’ve gotten good grades all your life in math, one measly ssat score won’t make too much of a difference. besides, your overall percentile is very respectable and keep in mind that a 79 in math is like a high 80s or low 90s in reading. & 79s not even that low… it’s 1 point away from 80, which sounds pretty high, right? chin up!

also, kids from 2 years ago like mpicz and theamazingjasmyn got into sps and exeter respectively with relatively low math scores, i believe they were both lower than high 70s. get a glowing rec from your math teacher and don’t worry about it.
best of luck :)
