SSAT November

Okay, so I took a practice test each weekend so that’s about 3-4 hours. Then, on weekdays, I usually studied for half an hour-two hours (if I had the time, but that was reallllly rare) Also, I didn’t really study the week before because I knew I would stress myself out too much and just get confuesed.

whoa that’s a lot…where’d you get all the practice tests? The Princeton Review book only has one for each level, and I’m just doing all of them (including the ISEE ones)

Kaplan, and the library  just do it on another piece of paper. I did really well on the SSAT’s, so I guess not prepping for the week b4 made a big difference.

So how many months before the exam did you start studying? lol

Hey just a warning, the quizlet word list are often times wrong in definition or very vague. I learned that the hard way through a spelling test, but luckily before I took the SSAT.

I start studying for the SSAT as soon as school starts, and I have taken it before. The best thing is to just get tons of practice books and do the questions over and over again. You will learn eventually :-). That is my motto, “Keep studying, because after a few months of misery you’ll eventually know the right answer for at least one question you didn’t before, and that one question might be the one point to get you into the school.” A long motto? Yes. Does it work? It works for me!

I started taking upper levels in sixth grade, and I’m still worried. I’ll be taking the SSAT on the same date as you, so maybe we can use like telepathy and give each other the correct answers, lol. At least you can know this, where you are sitting when you are taking the SSAT, another girl is doing the same thing as you (me). You are not alone.

im also taking the november ssat,
they don’t look at the essay a lot, because they know that you are under pressure and only have 25 min to write.
they mainly use it to compare to your application essays, so they are written by you, not a parent.

dont study vocab words, there are too many.
study the roots, similar roots = similar words.

best of luck to all

Thank you for the replies.
I didn’t want to study too much the week before the test so I don’t freak myself out. And plus, I don’t even have the time. Soo I guess for now, 2 days before the test, I’m just reading books and doing some vocab (mostly for the essay part). I started timing- A little tight on the math sections. Anyway, good luck to all of you who are taking it this Saturday :D

Ahh! I can’t believe it is already here… I’m so excited yet so nervous! I hope I never have to do the SSAT again, and I wish all of you luck (secretly wishes that my competition chokes and burns during the test, so the learning curve drops making my application look very compelling without me having to do much work besides filling in random bubbles… JUST KIDDING!!! DO WELL!!!).

I’m taking it on Sunday, and I am doing tons of studying, because I’m that type of girl who completely freaks out until she sees the great scores in front of her on the kitchen table. The night before though I just plan to do fun stuff all day, so I can fall asleep early with a cleared mind, otherwise I’ll be practically staring at the clock :)

Also, we all need to remember that there is always december to retake the test ;)

Ahhhhh I took it yesterday!! Snail mail comes in two weeks, however. :frowning: I think I did poorly on the math section…ran out of time!!! I was surprised on the verbal and reading sections though. Easier than I had anticipated. Still soooo nervous…hope my score doesn’t count that much toward my overall app… I just hope my percentile’s up to par… Essay prompt was easy enough. I just found out that we have different prompts even if we’re taking it on the same day?!!

Yes, you do. Sandol, I’m sure you did great…everyone thinks they’ve failed. Besides, there’s always retakes. Btw, what skls are you applying 2?

Lol your encouragement makes me feel better, but I still think I did bad.
The registration for the December SSAT ends in approx 5 days, much sooner than the day I am getting my November scores back!! I’m contemplating on whether to register. I felt that I got lucky on this one (esp the English sections), and I know every test is different, and presumably some of them are a little more difficult than the others. and I’m applying to Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Andover, Exeter, and possibly Hotchkiss, what are you applying to?

I’ll PM you.
