Does anyone know how many points one would need to get on the SSAT as an 8th grader to get 99th percentile? Is it roughly above a 2300?

It depends on the section, and your gender. I believe that the curve for Math is very high, especially for boys, with International students typically performing better than Americans. Three years ago, my older son scored in the mid-700s as an eighth-grader, on his second try (he was high-600s the first time, but had a great algebra teacher in 8th grade). It was his highest numerical score, but his lowest percentile (79th). My son’s reading score was just slightly lower than that, but it placed him at about the 95th percentile (I can’t remember precisely now) for 8th-grade boys. I forget where the writing was, but his overall percentile was around 90th, and I think he had around a 2200. Your estimate is pretty close, but, as I said, the curve is very high for math - don’t despair if your percentile ranking falls below 90.
