SSAT Percentiles

Hey College Confidential,

I have never taken the SSAT before. For an 8th grade male, what is 95th percentile? 99th?

Huh?

@Center basically what is the value of the 99th percentile out of 2400. I read a few sites giving opinions varying from 2310-2350. What do you guys (and gals) think?

For starters, SATs are no longer out of 2400. Went back to out of 1600. 99th percentile is probably a (near-)perfect score.

@odannyboySF OP said SSAT.

@Center yes I did

@Personof2017 to answer your question or rather not answer it…LOL…as I understand it the actual scores equating to percentiles changes constantly. The pool of students and comparators obviously changes, sometimes the test is harder or easier (more kids get more correct) and so forth. My son’s score was 2350 and 99th percentile. However, it is confusing because he didn’t miss the same number in each section but achieved the same percentile in each section. I am not sure how it changes from year to year.

Not knowing how the points equated to percentiles drove us nuts, especially because AppleKid took the SSAT twice. Both times the overall percentile was about the same, but the breakdown by area was different. So presumably the “super percentile” was something north of the individual percentiles but we don’t know what it was exactly. It’s just one more thing you can stress about but if you can find it in you to let it go you will be better off.

@Personof2017 U honestly can’t really tell, because percentiles matter on how others did in your grade/level group. However, 99% is really high so it would definitely be somewhere up in the 2300s

On the October test last year a 2320 was a 98th%

@Kthor626 Uhoh now I’m scared.
