Hi, I took the SSAT like 3 months ago and got a 68percentile
I been preparing every since and I just took a recent practice test and got a 97%.
I have like 3 weeks to go.
Any advice would be helpful.
Also If I don’t do so good on the SSAT are some schools I should apply to?
Perfect GPA
Can get excellent teacher recs. and write good essays
Good EC and Awards
Probably good interview
That is an awesome improvement! Now the only thing that matters is what you will do on the real thing.
I have taken the SSAT myself recently and have done fairly well. So what I would suggest for you to do is continue prepping and taking that time to study continuously. You still have three more weeks to go, so just dive into the materials. I would suggest for you to make your own SSAT test. In this exam you will write down the questions that you think might come on the test and then try to solve them. This way you will be able to prepare for the worst (not that I think you will have any) and also follow your instincts. (“Gifted Hands” by Ben Carson proves this point in a way.)
Are you applying to BS or Day Schools in your state? By the way, Exeter, Andover, etc. are good BS you should look at if you think you will be able to get a 93 percentile or above on the SSAT and since you say you have good EC and awards, then I think that there shouldn’t be other problems that can come along your way.
Practice tests unfortunately can be misleading. Continue to study and make sure to review concepts that you were unable to answer on the last test.
In terms of the importance of the SSATs, I believe most schools weight it heavily as it is the only standardized measurement of a student abilities. Grades are inconsistent and vary from school to school.
I recommend a website called “privateschoolexam.com” Though it is pricey, the program is very interactive and improved my score by over 10 percentiles in a month of studying.
I agree the actual ssat prep book was not worth the money at all. I’m a parent but from my child’s take, the reading comprehension was far more difficult on the actual exam. She then used Princeton Review I believe. You can get them at your local library. You can’t write in them of course but for free, you can get several editions.
@PrepSchools are you scoring 97% on both the math and the verbal or better on math vs verbal? Remember, the math is only 1/3 of the total, so if you scoring really high on math, focus your prep on English and reading.
