Having just recently received my SSAT scores, I was curious about the percentages/scoring of the sections. I know it's in relation to other students, but is it only in relation to your grade level or all students?

I got only 3 math questions wrong, giving me a 779, but that put me in the 90% (which I'm still very excited about!!) but I would've thought being 11 points away from an 800 would've given me a higher percentile.

Is this because the math section is the most competitive? (I got more wrong in both of my other sections and yet had higher percentiles) or does it have more to do with the fact that I am a 10th grader taking the SSAT?

Also, since when did the SSAT start sending out their scores so quickly? I received my scores by email 2 days after taking the test! I thought they usually weren't release for a couple of weeks?

you are judged in your age and gender category so they really narrow it down making a few points a big deal. congrats on your score by the way! no section is intended to be "more competitive" everything is marked by a machine and points and percentiles have no complex meanings - just straight up stats. as for the ssat sending out scores quickly - congrats! mine took about two weeks and i guess it just varies. maybe it's because more people take it in nov. and dec. than in jan. anyway - good luck in applying

That's very fast!
When did you take the test? and what did you sign up as? isn't there the normal rate they send out scores and the faster one??

We received our scores on January 14th. She took her test in Lawrenceville and we attributed the speed to the proximity of Princeton. Who knows! Last time they took a day shy of two weeks.

Yeah, I got my scores from the January 12th SSAT about 2 days later by email (the 14th at around 5 o'clock I think?). I signed up for the email package (which I'm now very glad I did!).

Also, I know they're all stats but it seems more people seem to do better on the math section, thus making it harder to get a higher percentage. (Does that make sense?) But I don't have any actual facts for this, it's just something I've noticed.

How did you get your scores two days later? I also signed up for the email package, but I haven't received my scores yet. Do you have special connections with SSAT or something? haha

fadedskyline, i get what you mean... perhaps it is because math is the most straightforward? like its easier to be absolutely sure about your answer. on the other hand, that is kind of impossible because no percentile can have more than another. but i guess the kinds of people on cc are the kinds of people who will have ssat strategies so i guess a lot of people on this forum will have good math scores?

haha, I really don't know Jonathan! I was so surprised when I got the email! I thought it would just be like verifying that I took it or something and it was my scores!!

And yeah, I was just looking at the SSAT prep book I got and according to the book the math had the highest 50percentile for 10th grade being all the way up at 705, both verbal and reading were lower. I guess maybe people are just generally more prepared for math because it's something you learn more directly in school where as like verbal and reading, in my opinion, is very effected by how much you read on your own.
