SSAT, Questions

Question 1:
Can I take it more then once in a year? Taking it October 11, 2008 , Novermber 8, 2008 and December 13, 2008 would be ideal just to try and achieve a higher score.
Can I simply send my best score when I apply or do I need to send all of them?(Or does the SSAT automatically go out to schools or what?)(Will I get my December test scores back within a month so I can send in all of my information by January 10th?)

Question 2:
Why do you write an essay if it is not graded? Is it sent to schools?

Question 3:
What is the best way to review for the reading section?
I am using flashcards for vocabulary(Just to sharpen up) and I am not worried about math what-so-ever. Reading will be a challenge... Any advice is grand.

Question 4:
I am using Princeton Review for preparation in general. I purchased an SAT(No SSAT were availible) vocabulary review... Should I use the Vocabulary review as well? I have 10 weeks until the first test date and The PR says I should start doing 2 hours in the booklet twice a week to get ready, so any help is great.

Question 5:
I took a practice test, and I didn't miss any... This happened to me with the ACT but when I actually took the ACT I missed 3. Are the practice tests notoriously easier than the real test?

Thanks.

Question 1:
I don't know I think you can decide not to send some scores. Check the website for more information.

Question 2:
The essay is not graded and it is sent to schools.

Question 3:
I went over flashcards for vocabulary and that helped I practiced math a lot. You seem to be doing good with those. Reading is hard to study for so practice many times and just try your hardest.

Question 4:
The books were helpful. I practiced very frequently and almost every day for the two weeks or so prior to the test.

Question 5:
I did okay on the practice test - some were better than others - but on the real test I did really good because I think I tried harder. But I think they are the same level.

Good luck!

You can either decide which schools you want it sent to when you register, or wait and choose which to send it to until after you receive your scores. However, if you retake the test, schools almost always count the highest scores.

It's a sample of your writing in a setting where you are guaranteed no outside help.

Practice tests are best for reading. As many as you can. Plus, you know, reading, but...I think the reading can be learned.

2 hours twice a week is more than I did, but you certainly can try it. I used Princeton Review and Kaplan. I didn't study for the vocab at all until the day before, when I went through the entire Kaplan glossary and make flash cards, and memorized them all. That worked pretty well for me.

By a margin of about 2 questions per section max., I did better on the SSAT than the practice tests. I think a good number of people experiance them to be a little easier, though.

So... Here's a scenario.
I take the SSAT on October 11th, and get an okay score but think I could do better. I didn't send this score to any schools.
Then I take it again. This time, I do marginally better. Still, didn't send to schools in case I did worse the second time around.

Can I go back online or by phone and send old scores to schools? Or can I only send the most recent test scores?
