okay so I just got my ssat scores back and i’m a bit confused on how to interpret it. i’ve watched many videos but the percentile isn’t making sense. I got a 2010/2400 ( much better than I thought ) and that’s a 83 but it keeps saying 53 percentile. Can someone help explain where this 53 is coming from?? thank you
The percentile is not 2010/2400 (which would be percentage correct and how grades on assignments are usually calculated). The percentile is where your score compares to the other kids in your grade that took the test. For instance, if you are in 10th grade, it compares you to all other 10th graders taking the SSAT and per the scores of all-takers, you are placed in a percentile among them. So, it is plausible that you scored a 2010 and are placed in the 53rd percentile.
53rd percentile means you did better than 53 percent of test takers like you
that’s not very good is it
It depends on what schools you are looking at, how strong the rest of your application is, etc. Obviously, it could be better, but it could also be worse.
if you look at my account I posted what my grades are , my extracurriculars and stuff like that
Tests might predict how you will do in school, but they are a lousy predictor of how you will do in life.
Also: We’ve seen kids get very low scores on their first try, then come back later and score in the 80s and 90s…
I guess I just don’t quite understand how I could get a decently good result but score so low in the percentage
Because other kids taking the test scored better…the pool of students that take the SSAT is very small and usually filled with the most talented candidates. It is very select, therefore your competition is much tougher.
that makes more sense
actually, i wouldn’t exactly say 2010 is an 83% either, as it’s actually 510/900 if you take into account that 500 in each subject is your base score if you don’t answer anything (though in reality it wouldn’t be scored); that leaves 300 achievable marks per section, and 900 in total—that puts you at 56%
but aside from that, don’t worry about it, i have a friend who’s stressing over ssat’s as well but i’m absolutely sure they’re only a small part!
