that's agreat score LLL!!!! I won't tell you to not worry Jonathan (I meanm how i could talk? i was flipping out) but i do think eveyrthing is going to turn out allright and you'll be happy with your scores! how did you feel the test went?

nellyrae, I don't know why you're so worried, that's amazing

in 8th grade when I took the john hokpkins' test I mixed up the verbal and the reading and got 14% on the verbal.

THANKS ROSIE!!! :)That's horrible about the john hopkins test. when i was grading a practice test i accidentally looked at the wrong set of answers and thought i got eveyrthing wrong...so discouraging!!!

Congratulations one and all!!!

Nelly...I would sell my lucky socks for your score...and thats saying something BIG!

awwww, thanks Crickett!

You know, the one thing that i was worried about BS is that i thought it would be filled with mean snobs, but if the people on CC is the type of people at bs, then i am no longer worried! everyone's soooooo nice here!

I feel the same way, Nelly :)

Ohmygosh. I just got my score. I got a overall of 82%. It was much better than last year! Btw, I'm in 9th grade. Last year I got a 14% and it was already too late to take another test. I really hope I get into the schools I applied to (The Masters School, Taft, Canterbury, and Miss Porter's). I go to this really bad public school in San Francisco and I really wanna shot at a good education. My school is horrible. The classes are packed (average class size is 47), the teachers are overrworked, and my school counselor tends to 600 freshman students. Oh I just really hope this all works out!!! I am just extremely intimidated by all the high scores everyone got! 99%!?!?!?!

Congratulations!!!!! that's definitely a ton of improvement over 14%!!!!!!! I hope you get into at least one of the schools your applying to!

It seems like everyone did well in the test. Congratulations! I think almost all of us got in the 90's. Did we get lucky? Was this test easier than November's?

Time to focus on the essays...

I got so nervous about getting into boarding school that I already finished all my applications, essays, interviews, and recommendations (except counselor). I'm so impressed by how everyone got in the 90th percentile!

krissy, it seems like the 90 percentilers are posting here. someone has to get 95 percentile and someone has to get 5 percentile. that is the nature of stats. sports have taught me a lot about numbers. a 50% on the ssat puts you in the top 10% of kids in the nation. a 70% puts you in the top 5% of kids. this tells you that the difference between a 70% and a 90% is not that great in terms of doing the work at a top school. i was told the test helps when the admissions people do not know the quality of a particular middle school.

the ssat takers are like the major league hitters in baseball. a .225 average may not seem great when playing for the yankees or sox but it means you are in the 99% of all baseball players in the world!! anything over a 50% on this test is solid and shows you can hit the major league pitching. schools want more than test numbers. i think they want someone with ec's and some character too. good luck to everyone.

nhfootballer, what grade are you in?? :)
What schools are you applying to??

LLL, i am in 8th grade. applying to schools in northern new england. would say more but my mom and dad got mad at me for posting stuff earlier.

my daughter recieved her scores yesterday.

she's 13
8th grader
public inner city school

Yet one of the best in the city.

Pre IB program
all honors classes
Taking Geometry (37 students in class) struggling w/ B

loves reading, writes well

I hear many of you took the ssat several times.

Is there a cut off score to get into boarding School?

Anybody applying to Asheville NC, St Andrew's in Delaware or Stonybrook in NY?

Is not the SSAT just so that the school can see that you can do the work.

Anybody in boarding school already is it really that hard?

I mean going from a 8th geometry class of 37 to one of 15 should make the class easier???

personal percentile average 8th fem her esti nat'l percentile

verbal 716 84% 657 95%
math 638 34% :( 667 90%
reading 704 85% 652 96%

Must she retest?

no need to retest. those are solid scores. she just needs to interview well and have some good extracurriculars. during a visit to one prep school a coach told me a story about a student athlete who unexpectedly got into a top college. the SAT and grades were not the highest. it worked because the student is a super person who interviewed well. has a great personality and character. exeter is a top school and they do not even list the average ssat score.

I'm so happy! I got 90 on Verbal, 99 on Math (AHHHHHH!!!!!!!), and 96 on Reading, and 97 on Total

AHHHHHHHHH

I thought I did really bad on Reading, but I really didn't!!!!!

I still didn't receive my scores! Hopefully they will get here by tomorrow or Saturday. :D

Is it unfortunate that I scored an 84 overall? Will it be looked down upon?
It certainly isn't as good as these 96's and 99's.

crickett, it is definitely not unfortunate. except for those lucky (well actually they worked hard for their marks too so i shouldn't say lucky) people who got 99s, everyone will have someone who got a better score. what counts is that you are in the top 16% of people who took the test. no school will see that as a setback.

drmaQueen, do you feel her math score reflects her abilities? Did she take a practice test before the test? It may be worth her time to work with an SSAT review book, such as the Princeton Review's version. Ask her to concentrate on the math section, and see if any identifiable problems crop up.

Her score on verbal and reading are strong. If her math education has been very progressive, she may know a great deal of math, but she may not know standard math terminology. She may also have lost track of which bubble to fill in, and have been "one off" on a row, for example.

I suggest you call the schools' admissions offices, and ask if they have a cut-off for SSAT subtests.
