Daughter just got scores back - 85% overall. Verbal 96, Math 62, Reading 78. I'm VERY surprised about the reading - as she always scores extremely high in that portion of any test. Math is certainly not her favorite subject so the 62 comes as no surprise. This was her 1st time taking the test so I'm trying not to be too disappointed. It is hard....

She is interested in all-girl's schools. We have interviewed with 4. However, does anyone
have any advice on any co-ed schools that are not pressure cooker type environments? She also prefers small schools. I am hoping for a better score next time as we were planning on applying for merit scholarships. This is all so new to me and being from Louisiana, we know no one who can help us. :-)

85% is a very fine score. It won’t keep you out of anywhere. It means your D is in the top 15% of applicants to select boarding schools this year.

Check out boarding school review for school ideas …but it is getting rather late for interviews, letters of rec, etc, so time to hop on it. The holidays roll around fast and January deadlines come soon after.

Louisiana Mom: as 2prepMom notes, your daughter’s scores won’t keep her out of any school. George School and Westtown are two Pennsylvania Quaker coed schools that aren’t pressure cookers. George School is a high school with about 540 students (about half boarding). It’s one of the few boarding schools in the country offering the International Baccalaureate degree (about 50% of students receive financial aid). Westtown is a K-12 school with mandatory boarding for 11th and 12th grades. Being from Louisiana is a plus–schools are looking for geographic diversity.

SSAT is offering a webinar for parents on understanding your child’s score report on Wednesday, November 20. You can find information and register for it on their website ssat.org

Louisiana Mom-- I agree her SSATs are very solid. Have you looked at the hidden gems list? Some might feel more like pressured than you want, but some won’t. Look maybe at Berkshire School, Williston Northampton? Or Concord Academy? Depends what she’s interested in–but many good schools with less pressured feeling.

Not sure if she would be interested in Miss Porter’. Williston Northampton, Berkshire, and Westminster all sound like fine choices for her situation.

85% is a very good SSAT score. That puts her in the mid to high 90%'s in the general population. I hope that you do not convey “disappointment” to your daughter.
