Do top schools care that much if your SSAT score is above average but one score is significantly lower than the other?

I have a 97 overall, but one of my scores is about 20 pts below the others.

I heard that as long as the overall score is okay then you should be fine.

Any thoughts?

You should be fine, as long as the grades are good, too. For example, if you did that -20 in math, and your grades in math aren’t great, then it would be a cause for worry.

Just my thoughts.

^ thanks. My grades in that particular area aren’t horrible, which should be good.

It depends on the school and where your score was low. Some schools would rather that low area be math, and some schools would rather that low area be reading. I heard that Exeter, in particular, likes to see a high math score.

Okay, thank you for the reply. :)

Having one subscore that is substantially lower is common. You’re fine w an overall 97. Move on.

Math was my lowest score on my SSAT but it is my highest grade in school. What does that tell Admissions Officers and is that a problem?

As long as your SSAT total % is above the average of the school you are applying, and math is near that, I wouldn’t worry about it. SSAT math is different from school math just as SAT math is different from high school math.

The AOs have to read hundreds (if not thousands) of files in the space of a few weeks time. They don’t have time to fixate on one subscore being lower than the other subscores. If your overall score is above the school’s average, then u have no ssat worries, mate. Go obsess about some other part of your application.
