I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but these school usually require an 80%+ score. If you are a really good student and get some 60’s and 70’s on the test and teachers write excellent recommendations then it may be overlooked. But your scores are definitely a problem.

What grade are you in? You may have to apply next year because most of these school’s applications are due a week from yesterday. If you apply for next year I would 100% get a tutor for the SSAT. Are your grades good?

What grade are you in? When did you take the test? If you think you can do really well sign up for the Feb test. Have you submitted your applications for those schools?

yah I took it in december and my overall score was a 93%tile. If you think you can get 70%+ call the school to ask if it is ok to take the February test.

Rather than tell you that your scores are bad or good, I’m going to tell you how percentiles work so you can decide for yourself.

Let’s say you get a 50th percentile. This means you got a higher score than 50% of all test takers of your grade and gender, and lower than 50%. If you get a 60%, you got a higher score than 60% of all test takers of your grade and gender and a lower score than 40%.

So, for math, you got a higher score than 52% of all test takers of your grade and gender and a lower than than 48%. The same logic applies to all your other scores.

Unfortunately, the schools you have listed prefer to see scores in the 80ths or higher.

think about dublin school, gould academy, vermont academy, st annes-belfield, the gunnery, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, and similar, though these schools still all have ssat averages in the 40-60 percentile range… how are your grades? and recommendations?

bbc420 is right and if You had “yea i had mono and my hands were swollen too!! i could barely grip my pencil…i couldnt concentrate man” then there is no need to be angered at what he wrote because it is not Your fault. You SHOULD HAVE left the SSAT room and gone to the doctors’ instead of taking the test in Your condition. I can tell You, although, that with those scores, You will not be accepted into ANY boarding school. (No offense) And still, ITS NOT YOUR FAULT!

Yeah, you definitely need a retake. I achieved a 99% overall and still had doubts of getting into Groton (silly doubts, I was accepted for the Groton 8th grade last year). You might wanna try applying to local day schools if your scores are that low.

This is my son’s score from the most recent test. I think it would have benefited him to know ahead of time that he wouldn’t lose points if he just left answers blank. As you can see, he tried to answer everything.

I thought others might be interested in the scoring breakdown, though.
