Hey guys, so i got my second ssat results back and i am not too happy with my scores in verbal and my reading took a huge fall. However, i got a 92th percentile on the math section. So i was wondering how this whole superscoring thing works and which schools accept it. I read online that the ssat does not superscore so i am a bit confused. Anyway any advice would be appreciated.
I think the SSAT company doesn’t automatically superscore scores for you to send to schools, but when schools receive multiple scores, they take the highest scores for each section and considers your final score as whatever the score is when you add those up.
@mondaydevil thank you that cleared a bunch of questions. I am kind of hesitant though because i am also sending a low reading score because i have to send the whole report to show them the math score and i am worried that when they see that score they will question my reading abilities.
Honestly, I don’t think you need to read too much into the individual sections. I think you should send both if the superscore succeeds the normal score by 5 or more percentiles. Otherwise, it probably won’t make much of a difference.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
Actually I was told different by one school as I asked specifically about total score vs individual scores. DD took it twice and ended up with the same percentile but Reading which was lowest the first time around (and a strong area for her) jumped by 21 points the second time. The other 2 however dropped points.
I was told that the school look closely at the individual scores including how many answered, how many got wrong etc.
I believe this is more relevant when ones total is in the 70-90 percentiles.
Each school approaches this differently. Your best bet is to have a parent call the AO and explain your situation and ask for advice. That’s what I did with my son. He had issues with his math score and was trying to make me sign him up for a third ssat sitting. I was refusing to do so - I called the ao’s to back me up. They thought it was hilarious and had a long talk with me about ssat.
As I have said before - if you have a question, that isn’t totally stupid, call the AO and ask. It shows interest. It shows you care. It reminds them who you are. AND most importantly it is far better to get your info from the source than an anonymous website full of people you don’t know who don’t know which school you are worrying about.
