I really need to improve my vocabulary on the SSAT's (I'm taking the test in November). I've been studying, but's not really being effective. I'm not the type of person who can burn definitions into my brain through flashcards. Does anybody have a unique way of memorizing vocab? Thank you!

Not so scary vocabulary- is designed for the old SAT vocabulary portion. It is a set of CD’s that have entertaining ways to remember vocab words. We bought ours at Borders a few years ago. It might even be available to download to an Ipod nowadays.

Mnemonics. That is my suggestion. Also, read lots of books, particularly ones with a large vocabulary. Look up all the words that you don’t know.

My kids liked freerice.com

My favorite way to learn new vocabulary is definitely by reading some more challenging books. Over time, you can build up your reading level and your vocabulary. Good luck! :)

@muf 123, who doesn’t? :p

The mnemonics are the best. Look up “SSAT Vocabulary Cartoons”, and get both books. They help tremendously… I got 95th percentile for vocabulary last year, and I think those books really contributed to that score.

Which book did you use? I can’t seem to find it, there is only the SAT one.

Sorry…it is the SAT one. Get both of them…but I think the first one was the best.

Haha, alright. I might, or might not, because there is only like 12 days left.

Then just get one and study it like crazy. It’s so helpful. So is taking Latin…

Well, can you tell me the name of the book, I can study like crazy because I Party Rock!!! Lol jk, but I was just listening to that song. Lol

About what freerice level would be good?
