SSP Acceptance??

Maybe it is. I just wanted to choose a program that I actually got accepted into this year rather than last year (deferral).

yes but HSHSP doesnt offer the greatest mentors and MITES is somewhat reduced in prestige:

Additional factors that are considered for selection [for MITES] as plus factors (not entry requirements) include whether:

the individual would be the first in the family to attend college;

there is an absence in the individual's family of science and engineering backgrounds;

the individual's high school has historically sent less than 50% of its graduates to 4-year colleges;

the applicant attends a school that presents challenges for success at an urban elite university (e.g., rural or predominantly minority); and/or

the individual is a member of a group that is under-represented in the study and fields of science and engineering (African American, Latino or Native American).

and besides, apply to SSP as a sophomore is a total lottery! just because a college defers you from Early app. doesnt mean you wouldnt want to go if accepted regular round!

what does SSP consider then? what makes it so great?

and if you think MITES is less prestigious because of the factors it considered, what would u have thought of SHARP? It was clearly a URM program. It was also one of the best times of my life and you know what, I'm not even an URM.

why are you so bitter anyways?

no idea what URM is but dont worry im not bitter, i just have a hard time swallowing instances where a student applies and is offered a free ride but in the end refuses the program. a bit hypocritical, sry, but its just kind of ironic...

Understandable but I did not choose apply this year. The only thing I did this year was fill out an updated information form with my name and a 5-minute financial aid form. In any case, MITES is full ride for all its participants.

That's such a hypocritical and cynical attitude Nina...you should thank your lucky stars that you got admission from MITES,HSHSP, and SSP considering you have terrible Collegebaord scores, or so you claim. Haha, you know what, nothing tops RSI with regards to prestige so you might as well just vegetate at home, because you obviously don't care about performing good scientific research as much as you care about prestige.

waittt, HSHSP sent out acceptances already? UH OHHH. hey did u get it throught mail or email?? and congrats, sorry if this is intrusive, but did michigan give you any financial aid??

i got my notification from HSHSP yesterday through email. They say I should get another notification within the next week or so with financial aid information so i dont know yet.

evilasiandictator: what makes you credible enough to tell me to vegetate at home? I have not actually "vegetated" in my house over the summer for the last 6 years and have you done research? If you haven't, you have nothing to say to me. And there, I am clear proof that college board scores don't count for everything. who are you anyways?

hey, heeeeey!
relaaax a bit, will ya, people?
this is supposed to be a peaceful discussion, not the place where you fling mud at each other

It was naansian's decision to make, and he made it
and we gotta appreciate that (im not saying that b/c i want a spot)

so, pleeeeeeease, calm down?
thanks

Naansian probably isn't into the fact that SSP is heavily focused in astronomy. HSHSP will provide him/her with an area of focus to research on that he/she will be more interested in. I highly doubt he/she picked astronomy as an area of interest for HSHSP, otherwise SSP would have been the place for him/her. In the other case, MITES might be a way for him/her to discover what he/she wants to do in the math/science field. It's obvious that Naansian needed to narrow down his/her choices; doing so will enable the people waitlisted at SSP to get accepted faster...

godspeed..

1st post on this account...about a couple hundred on my old one.

Accepted to the Socorro campus. I'm really excited about this program, so I'm hoping to have an awesome time this summer.

Hey oasis, are you still there? I'm actually jthecanadian from last year's forums. Much has changed since then, and I'd like to talk to you about some stuff on AIM. Do you remember simfish?

great J M Pham, see you at Socorro.

you get a choice of campus ktk, in the student profile you fill out and submit online!

the stuff you learn at SSP does not require advanced calculus, astronomy, or physics... so TAs from princeton or some timbuktu college might be more enlightening but useless

it seems like everyone got financial 'cept me. i go by the lieberman principle: if my parents can pay $3300, they pay for it. we're not rich but we put money in the right places, i.e. books, education, tuition. i will accept scholarships for merit but not scholarships because of need. i guess its because of my culture.

kissthekyxx,

your myspace link is incorrect and inaccessible

OI! SORRY! I totally jacked up my myspace address thing; ugh.
Its touchtheskyxx instead lol. Sorry - it gets a bit confusing at times.

whistlesI put my preference as Ojai, so I don't know why i got deferred to Socorro lol. Either way, I put that I was a sophomore but was graduating early, which was rather stupid of me since it could only hurt me, and cringed about not being able to attend, so I don't quite mind. It sucks though this kid at my school is going to be there. Way to give me a chance to start over!

how should i behave while on alternate list?
i mean, should i be writing to Richard Bowdon like 20 times per day and asking what should i do?
should i email him at all?

it's been 28 days 17 hours 48 min (:D)since i got the decision letter, and since then i didnt hear anything

What should i do? :)
