Hi,

I am torn between SSP(Science Summer Program not Harvard SSP) and YSP. (a six week research program at UC Davis); I am currently leaning towards SSP. Can anyone who has gone to either of the programs give me some pros and cons of each one. I hope to get some additional exposure to research(towards an Intel Science Project) which YSP will provide, but the rigorous challenge of SSP seems really exciting.

For previous YSP participants, how much research do you actually get to do and how much say do you have in choosing your topic? Is the research comprehensive? What is daily life like?

Thanks for all your help!

Your Chi is saying go with SSP after all its symbolic that your user name has SSP in it.

:-P

Sorry just had to do that. I know neither of the programs but congrats! And hopefully I will be in the same position with Telluride in a few weeks. :D

Thanks so much. I wish you good luck with Telluride. :)

-I am also a really big fan of lobsters by the way(pretty random, but it is like my favorite food)

SSP hands down. See you there.

sspParticipant. I think it depends on what kind of research you want to do at YSP. If you are leaning towards bio/chem, then go to YSP. If math/physics to go SSP

funny thing though, I am waitlisted at both :) So if you would be sooooo kind, please notify the programs soon, once you make your decisions!!!!!
MUCH MUCH appreciated

i picked ysp because i want to work on an independent project in a social environment. SSP is social but the research is more collaborative and everyone's work is similar. But in the end it depends I think on the field you want to focus on because the research at ysp is heavily bio-sci, and ssp is math/comp-sci/physics and I think opportunities will be strongest for each in their respective areas.
