St. Andrews American Applicants - Class of 2025

Also, St A’s does do Spanish ab initio as well as for those who have studied at HS, so you may be OK anyway.

@Conformist1688 thank you for the encouragement and kind wishes! We’ll see how it unfolds!

Has anyone in comp sci heard back?

Does checking application mean I will hear back soon?

It could- but not necessarily. It’s just a stage in the process.

If I applied for art history and have not heard back yet is it reasonable to assume I did not get in

@arose62 a ‘no’ can come as fast as a ‘yes’.

It is reasonable to assume that your expectations of a fast answer are misplaced.

UK universities admit by subject. If subjects a, m and r have notified US applicants there is nothing you can infer about your status if you are an applicant to subject d, k or y.

IF several other US applicants had heard from Art Hx and you had not, the only thing you could reasonably assume is that your application was neither an auto-admit or an auto-reject, and it was still under consideration.

In the UK “rolling admissions” does not mean that as soon as your app comes in it is evaluated. It means that you can get a response at any point between when you apply and the latest date for responses (early May). There are US students every cycle who don’t hear until April. Different subjects approach it differently. Some do a steady ‘as soon as they come in’ approach. Others batch them up until they have a given number. Still others set a schedule for tackling it. And, it can change year to year, as the admissions people are profs from the department, and there are various rota systems for who is on admissions in a given year.

tl;dr: no, you can’t assume anything so be patient.

So well put!! Thank you, this helped a lot. I applied CS and Psych and I assume I will hear before the new year. Is this correct?

LOLOL

Hi! I am a high school student from the US and applied mid October to St. Andrews for a Psych Major in the College of Arts. I am very nervous but I was wondering if anyone knows around when I should get my decision by and if anyone else who has applied as a Psych major has gotten a decision back yet? Good luck to everyone!!

@lulufrite1234, go up thread & read #25!

TPL;dr: nope…

hi! I also applied for a psych major in the college of arts mid-october, and I’ve just received my unconditional offer. I think it might depend if you applied through UCAS (which I did) or not but i’m not 100% positive! I also was in contact with the uni shortly after my application to make sure they received all my documents and references without any trouble.

Hello all, thanks for the help I’ve been reading this thread for the past couple weeks. I’m an American applicant for Bsc Physics and got my unconditional offer on the 24th of November!

Good luck to you all and hope to see you all on campus next year!

Hi Everyone! I wanted to share that I received an offer today for Economics Master of Arts, so if any of you applied into that program as well hopefully you will hear back soon! My application status had changed from “Checking” to “Pending” today, so I’m assuming that was an indication that a decision was near.

Hi All! I am looking to apply for the fall of 2021 and was wondering if any of you who got unconditional offers thus far would feel comfortable sharing your academic statistic? I.e. GPA, test scores, etc. Just doing some research and would help give me a frame of reference. St. Andrews is my top choice right now and I just want to have a realistic expectation based on the most up-to-date information! Also, how long typically did it take to receive an offer after applications were submitted? Thanks!

heyo! just wondering, has anyone heard back from International Relations?
Thanks

D applied for Psychology with the bio department … nothing yet

Hi there! Congrats to those that received their offers, so very exciting! I was hoping you would share your stats? It would be so helpful. We are hoping to see our son’s chances. We are in the southern US. Thanks!

I think comp Sci is one of the most competitive. I think the more competitive the subject … the longer the wait.

I heard back week of thanksgiving: got in!! St. Andrews was one of my safety schools/for fun so I am glad I have somewhere to go!!!
