@bessieh Hey! I applied on the common app 6 weeks ago. My UW GPA is a 4.0 and ACT is a 30. For APs I have 4’s with one 3. I think what helped me was my ECs and personal statement. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@bessieh my GPA is a 3.7 UW and SAT is a 1310 superscore. I took 4 AP exams last year, APES, English Lang, and US Gov got 4 and Comp gov got 5. I honestly felt I was so unqualified and wasn’t expecting much but St Andrews was my first choice so I am so glad :: I applied via common app.
Do you think they make decisions based on the date the applications were submitted? For example people who applied in October would here back before people who applied in November. I haven’t heard from them today which most likely means I wont here from them until next week.
y’all need to stop obsessing with this tea leaf reading- not just for right now, but b/c if you are going to cope with going to university in the UK you are going to have to get used to a really different way of doing things. You will find that admin things are much less rigid than they are in the US. In some ways, this can be great, and in other ways it can be really annoying. But it is different.
As far as admissions goes, it is not an adcomm sitting in an office whose whole job is to evaluate & decide who to take. The professors- the people who are likely to be your teachers if you enroll- in each department have the final call on offers- who to offer it to, and what the offer will be. Different departments, and different people within those departments have different calls on their time, and different levels of applications to review. Some departments, such as IR, are routinely oversubscribed and are known to talk longer to reply. Joint subjects have to get sign offs from both departments. Local applicants don’t have to submit until January.
US applicants to St As are luckier than UK applicants when it comes to the actual process- they hear back faster and their offers are more likely to be unconditional.
I know that it is hard to wait, but work at putting your energy someplace more constructive.
@collegemom3717 I would like to kindly remind you that this thread is for applicants, so if you do not fall under this category, please do not try to control what people post on here - whether that be anxiety over waiting or asking about the background of successful applicants. thank you nicely!
@bessieh the thing is it probably matters a lot less what their scores were and more what program they applied to.
@bessieh, not trying to control what anybody posts- trying to help take the temperature down, by giving some insight as to how the system works.
As was pointed out, info on offers from subjects that are different than the one you applied to are irrelevant to what is likely to happen for you, b/c the decisions are made by each subject group, not as a whole.
Looking back at the thread I see that you are one of the posters who has been waiting the longest. I get that it’s hard, and the anxiety builds- I hope that you hear soon
@VickiSoCal thxs for explanation on UCAS allowing several choices of major.
@bessieh not sure why it’s necessary to attack someone who has a wealth of experience and is providing very useful insight.
When you guys say IR, does that apply to the combined economics and IR major? That is coming out late?
Foe a combined program both departments need to admit you.
Anything with IR in it (single or joint) has the potential to be later than other departments. I would guess that when one hears depends on the number of applicants in any given year, but it seems that IR is always an oversubscribed department. I think that single IR would come out faster than joint since, as VickiSoCal said, in joint both departments have to admit. My D applied last year in late Oct and heard mid Feb. for joint IR and SA.
New week of acceptances, good luck to all who applied.
oops just found this thread! I applied in September and was accepted in November for MA in Psychology!
@avocadopal wow, that’s what I got accepted for as well! you’re the first person that I’ve seen to be MA psych too!!
Does anyone know if there is a class of 2022 FB group? I know we don’t get to choose our roommates or anything but it would be nice to be able to meet others from the US who are going to St A’s.
I’m sure there will be however I don’t know if it will be set up by the students or by the university
@nbxx33 no I don’t think so but someone should start one!
The university has set up a FB group.
Search for University of St Andrews Class of 2022
I wonder if anyone heard back from the university today?
