St. Andrews Scotland

Hi, Anyone know the typical stats for entry to St. Andrews Scotland as an American? Also, any info on their economics degree and if US companies value it. Thanks.

Mr Google says: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/subjects/entry/usa/

They have people in the US you can contact for more info

I got in for IR/Econ unconditionally last year with a 32 ACT, 4 APs not yet taken (predicted 5s) and a 750 in US History. They’ll look at your GPA/rec/personal statement more than the typical UK school, but less than the typical US school.

The econ department seemed solid at the St. Andrews open day, but you do have the issue of not being near a city with possibilities for internships etc. That said, it looks like a lot of Consulting and IB firms recruit there.

Side but important note, your first two years, most classes are 100-200 students and then smaller classes taught by PhD students.

Is that specific to Economics @whoharry ?

All of my daughter’s tutorials in Math and Chemistry are led by staff who already have their PhD’s.

@VickiSoCal I assume it’s by department, as both the econ and IR departments, said that tutorials would be by PhD students.

Thank you. We will visit.

That is a good idea. When we visited we did the general info session in the morning and then after lunch she met with a professor in chemistry (he’s now her adviser) and they toured the labs and he talked to her about research opportunities, what the first year classes are like and such.

had you taken ap classes before. Also, if yes, what were your scores
@whoharry

@steponsani I had only self-studied AP Micro at the time, and got a 3 on it. I took 4 APs my senior year, and predicted/got 5s, but got an unconditional for IR + Econ before the scores came out.

My high school restricts APs to mostly Juniors and Seniors, and it says that on the school profile, but idk if that had any impact.

Damn! ok. I have 3 AP´s with 4, 4, 5 and a 32. So I was just wondering. @whoharry
