St. Augustine Scholarship Acceptance

I received an email about an hour ago letting me know that I have been selected as a Saint Augustine Scholar for Villanova Class of 2022.
The email says:
Congratulations!
You have been selected as a Saint Augustine Scholar for Villanova’s Class of 2022! This prestigious award is valued at $15,000 per year.
Along with this special recognition, we would like you to take advantage of an opportunity only offered to Saint Augustine Scholarship recipients - our “Villanova Alumni Conversations” program.

Ditto, congrats to all!

Congrats! My Son got one too!

We were hopeful for one too! Wondering what your stats were?? Very appreciative for any info!!! Congrats to all!

@CatherineF 1500 on the SAT, 102 weighted gpa, and third in my class.

Did you apply, or was this an automatic grant?

@margueriteburtzlaff I was sent an email notifying me that I was invited to apply to the scholarship and I had to write a page long essay

Those are fabulous stats!!! My son is applying and still waiting on several merit scholarships. What do you think his chances are? His GPA is 5.2/4.0 scale; 33 ACT (34 superscored), 5’s on all AP tests, NHS president, 8A State Varsity Football champ. He was admitted into VillaNova Honors College but still waiting for merit stuff. Not looking good for merit if he didn’t get asked to do St. Augustine. What do you think? THANKS!!

@CatherineF with those scores, he should receive it without a doubt as long as he put effort into his essay.

I REALLY love this site as my senior is my oldest student and the college application process is new to us. And I REALLY appreciate feedback and answers to my questions. THANK YOU! OK…so I called VillaNova and he was NOT asked to apply for the St. Augustine. The admissions counselor says its a holistic process not just a GPA/ACT criteria. We are finding the process stressful! It’s such a great school with a fabulous curriculum but without a merit scholarship it just doesn’t seem achievable. A+ on all AP classes while doing Varsity football and NHS president I thought would make him at least a candidate. I believe merit scholarships are just the Presidential and St. Augustine. Does this sound correct???

@CatherineF Yes, Villanova’s merit scholarships are limited. I’m assuming they mostly only give out grants based on need. The full list of scholarships is located on this website: https://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/admission/affordable/scholarships.html

I think they are only awarding 80 St. Augustine scholarships. Not very many.

Yes, not many merit scholarships available. My D was accepted EA into honors and was not invited to apply. SAT 1510 ( one sitting)
UWGPA: 4.0, W 4.58 (#3 in class)
Many EC, volunteer, awards…
( knew going in not much money is typically available/given). Don’t hold out much hope Villanova will be an option.

Accepted St. Augustine Scholar,
33 ACT/1420 ACT/4.00 UWGPA - #11 in Class/ But only two 5s out of my 4 AP tests I’ve done so far! Honestly I’m surprised that I was not only given the award, but even invited with the stats y’all are giving! (Captain of Track and Field Hockey, treasurer of NHS, member of SHS and frequent volunteer along with a job but I’m not a minority or a legacy, and I applied RD)

I agree that Villanova definitely has a holistic approach to awarding scholarships. My S has very high stats, excellent recommendations, high level ECs (including athletic awards) and was not invited to apply for St. Augustine or invited to honors. Admitted in EA round. Villanova had been his top choice, but is now not even in the running anymore. S was initially disappointed but has other terrific choices, so everything works out!

My DD who is currently a junior recently visited Villanova and really liked it. The admin person mentioned that over the last few years acceptance rates have been steadily declining. Does anyone one know if these stats are competitive for VSB?

SAT 1420 (640R, 780M) one sitting
3.86/4.00 GPA unweighted (won’t know weighted till fall)
Several AP classes
School doesn’t rank

My daughter was admitted early action with a 1430 sat, 4.3 weighted gpa, 3rd in class. Excellent essays and lots of standout awards and leadership. I’ve seen others with higher stats get denied. It’s a crap shoot. You have to have the whole package. She also got into UVA And Gettysburg. Denied at UPenn.
