I got called for an interview for this program in late October. Any advice? Did anyone else apply?

i got notified today. it’s the end of January right? by phone?

Same here, where you all from? feb 2 for me

Its advertised that SBU/GW is nice, but in reality it is not a guarantee, so i don’t think i will be going to the interview. Also, it is in St. Bonaventure which is risky if I don’t get into the program. What do you guys think?

wait what do u mean it’s not a guarantee? and what about it is risky? the cost of going there?

I got notified via mail, but mines is scheduled for the end of January. @ChinaBoy I am also confused about your post. It is not a guarantee?

When did you guys apply to this program? I thought the deadline was December 1st.

@mlover 15 What i mean is that the program isn’t a guarantee, its slightly skewed advertising. Unlike the GW/GW program (which is highly popular) not all SBU/GW kids make it to GW. About 4-6/10 depending. My question to you is that though its not a guarantee should i still go to the interview?

@inevitable, It would be risky to go to SBU/GW and realize in your sophmore or junior year that you won’t be going to GW med. I would seriously cry if that happened.

@smartdude, the final deadline is dec. 15, almost everyone who applies provided that they have above a 1300 ish SAT gets the interview,

I was just surprised that people already got notified for an interview.
I submitted my application before the Dec. 1st.

@ChinaBoy: Not everyone gets an interview. Last year, out of the 170 kids who applied, only 62 got an initial interview.

@Chinaboy That makes sense. I think you should still go to the interview because it will be good practice for other interviews. You hopefully will be called to others However, it also depends on the distances involved. If you live far and would not go there if accepted, then it is probably not worth the trip.
@Smartdude I think that the application committee review each application as it comes in.

So, if they review applications as they come in, then does everyone get interviews?
Or just a selected few. I read this:

“There are two separate interviews, both by invitation. We invite fully qualified applicants for an interview at SBU [usually in January]. Last winter (Jan. 2011) we interviewed 62 applicants for this program out of 170 total applications. We select 20 to 25 applications to present to GW in the first week of February. They pick the ones they want to interview [23 for 2011] and invite them for a second interview in D.C. in the second half of February. GW makes the final decision on who they will offer seats to in the first half of March. I notify the applicants, who have until May 1 to accept of decline the offer. There is generally a short list of alternates.”

@chinaboy
well the only reason you wouldn’t get into GW is if you don’t maintain their standards… which is the case for ALL BA/MDs sooo this risk is the same regardless

@ChinaBoy,

When did you submit your application for the program, and When did you hear back from them about an interview?

@mlover15
