I'm surprised SGS dosn't get mentioned as much on this forum! Its a wonderful school with amazing academics and I think it should get much more credit!

What tier would SGS be considered to be in? 2nd?

What tier would SGS be considered to be in? 2nd?

yeaa prob 2nd.

Great school, and the only boarding school I'm aware of with twin helicopter landing pads.

I heard they have their prom at a mansion in Newport.. must be nice!

There are a lot great BS rarely mentioned on CC which should not discount their eminence. I'm not about to get into the tier level debate. A big part of a school's success I believe is determined by the students and faculty and what the student takes away from it. I know quite a few guys who went through the whole Exeter experience and talk very little about it, then there are the guys who went to Brooks, Westminster, Kent and 30+ years later still get excited talking about their schools . I'm sure one can just as easily flip that comment around but the point I'm trying to convey is what is constantly mentioned here "fit". The number one school will be the one you attend.

The tier one schools get more time on the board because there are so many more people applying to them. It's a basic numbers thing. There are just fewer people to comment on the other schools.

what tier is brooks/nmh/berkshire?

crickett, what year are you applying for st. george's? i'm applying too!

Brooks is probably 2nd, Berkshire and NMH are 2/3.

what is this whole tier thing, exactly? haha i mean, i get the general idea.. but what is it decided on?

prestige......

prestige does have some part of it. However, if you are hardworking and want to learn it doesn't really matter what school you go to because you can haev sucess if you work hard. For example, if you have an ssat score in the 50's and go to AEDS you'll probably struggle. But, if you have that ssat score and go to a nurturing school like the ones your applying to COOLGIRL2010 (besides exeter) those schools can really help students with their weaknesses and make them stronger.

i see. how many tiers are there? haha

coolgirl2010 there are many. LOL

I think there are 4 though.

20-40%
40-60%
60-80%
80-100%
(in order of acceptance rates)

ooh, i seee. but brooks acceptance rate is 35%, but its not as prestigious as, say, exeter.. is that why it's 2nd tier? haha sorry i'm being so annoying

The Bunkel Index separates boarding schools into five tiers:

Div. 1-A
Div. 1-AA
Div. 2
Div. 3
NAIA

haha, i have absolutely no idea what that means. i feel really bad, but i'm so unfamiliar with this stuff!

Yeah, when it comes to understanding "tiers" of boarding schools, you're unfamiliarity puts you at a decided advantage over everyone who possesses definitive knowledge on the subject.

how so? because i wouldn't be so picky and choosy?

mmhm exactly.
Do you know how to get to the BUnkel Index
