Thanks for the advice, no I haven’t heard of the school . I wasn’t really looking at catholic universitys . But ill check it out . But yeah , I haven’t taken SAT’s or ACT yet . But I am deffinetly going to apply to st.johns along with my other schools . You never know , st.johns could magicly change within the next two years :-p .

Even Manhattan College (not in Manhattan) is usually considered better than St Johns. http://www.manhattan.edu/

I don’t think the St Johns in Annapolis and Santa Fe are religious at all.

Don’t come across the country for SJU, thats pretty much the bottom line IMO.

Thanks everyone.

Please tell me about Hofstra and Pace .
Is going to an SUNY the same as someone comming to California for a Cal state or UC ?

Thanks everyone.

Please tell me about Hofstra and Pace .
Is going to an SUNY the same as someone comming to California for a Cal state or UC ?
I say this because I hear a few of them have great bio programs .

Stony Brook is great for premed/bio, its a bit out on the island but only about an hour from the city by train and is really cheap

I wouldn’t go to Hoftstra/ Pace either from cali… both commuter schools basically like st. johns. Generally SUNY’s are okay, but not as good as the premier UC’s (berkely/UCLA), but getting into binghamton lately is no joke.

Beatfreak: Cornell is not in New York City. It’s about 5 or 6 hours upstate in the middle of nowhere.

There’s a possibility that you wouldn’t mind commuter schools. But look into these schools, I think their programs are good for biology:Colgate University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Long Island University - Brooklyn Campus, Long Island University - C.W. Post Campus, Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Stony Brook, Syracuse University, University of Rochester, York College

Anonymous91 - I am going to apply yo UC’s but hey are also VERY competitive . Thanks though . I don’t really mind if the school is a commuter school ; if there’s people living on campus/campus housing that’s good enough for me . I wouldn’t mind exploring and finding entertainment . But I DO want a real college experience …

** I want a diverse campus ( I mean that in every aspect )

Alexandrafitzmor - you’re right , read what I said to anonymous91
Long island was one of the first ny schools I became interested in because of their bio program , but like every school their flaws came to play . I am still going to do my research . Buffalo was another one . I fell in love with it after doing some research but I quickly fell away from it . I began to like it so much that I was willing to be 8hrs from the city for it lol , but then again , my mind changed and I’m still on the hunt …
Thanks everyone !!!

So, you’re expecting to find the PERFECT school as long as it is in the city and has an excellent program for biology? What kinds of flaws are you thinking of? I know that you’ll find something wrong with every school if you look hard enough, but all of these schools are quite large with practically limitless options.
I don’t mean to be harsh, but it seems irrational to have such stringent requirements; you’ll probably find you like these schools as much as you did when first read about them.

Oh, and you can find the % diversity of each school pretty easily, either on their website (search school name + admissions statistics in Google) or on U.S. News.

Alexandra… - no , that’s not the case and yes I KNOW that no school is perfect . Maybe I should have reworded what I said . For one , I was looking at long island u - bk campus and it was a bit small for my taste , but I think I mentioned this before I am still going to apply . Since every school has its downside of course its going to be hard to find one that really fits the description but I’m willing to work with whatever I get . Yeah , I use sites already to find out the diversity , programs , etc. Thanks .

Oh and I don’t think you were being harsh lol . But like I said I know every school isn’t perfect and I know that ill just have to adjust to it which isn’t a problem at all . It would be nice to go to school near the city but you can’t always get what you want . And that’s not really my focus , even though I mentioned it when I was speaking on UBuffalo , but id rather be there then in the middle of nowhere .

My fault for not explaining myself better

No, no, no…it’s really okay. The college search is VERY difficult, and you’re doing it relatively early compared to so many kids (some do it AFTER applying- a big no-no). So kudos to you, and good luck!

Thanks , thanks for everything . The advice and all . I’m glad I’m starting early too because even now its a bit stressful just trying to put the colleges together. .
