St. John's University

Hi fellows!

Can somebody tell me what university is St. John's University (NYC)? I have heard it's academically good!?

Thanks
Gery

Expensive NY private school located somewhere in Queens, I believe. Most of the people that graduate end up working in the back office of an I-Bank. It has good connections in and around NYC but thats about it.

Actually, it is a bit better than that. Many here on CC will look down on SJU because it is not that highly ranked.

However, the school (a Catholic Vincentian university) has a specific mission that it serves: making college available to persons of all walks of life and background. It has a tremendously diverse student body, many of whom came from very economically difficult or urban backgrounds. It has the full range of courses of study that you might imagine accross the board, with a particularly good pharmacy program and a decent bus school.

The law school is highly rated too.

Do not be fooled by the #s strictly speaking. The school has many good points and is only 20 minutes from downtown NYC. It has a very ambitious honors program and top notch students from all over turn down higher ranked schools for it. For NY, it has one of the most wide and influential alumni networks in banking, business in gerneral, law and pharmacy.

It is not as "high priced" as many privates, as its total combined cost is about $40,000, not the $50,000 of many others (it is still high). They have many many merit and need based scholarship and aid programs that make it affordable for almost everyone.

As you can see, I love the school and think that you need to look past the #s to fully appreciate it.

Many St. John's graduates go on to work in very lucrative careers in the financial industry. Many also go on to become well-respected teachers and lawyers. I have recruited for a couple of the top law firms in the country and we have always had SJL graduates as associates and partners.

I live near St. John's and they are really considered one of the best universities in the immediate area. Even though it is not highly ranked on Princeton Review or Newsweek, the school does have excellent programs in pharmaceutics, finance, education and law. They are also generous when it comes to financial aid, so don't let the high price (which isn't even that high when compared with other private schools) scare you away.

What field are you interested in?

Hi guys!

Thanks for the replies! I'm interested in Finances!

I know a few smart kids that go to St. Johns, one of my best friends turned down Binghamton and American to go there and he loves it (sports management major). He especially comments on the amazing diversity that they have.

Here's an online brochure about their finance program:

Hope that helps!

I will be attending this school too!!!
I've heard good and bad things about it

People do look down on it, but NOONE i know looks down on their pharamcy program, i heard its crazy good. Our Sal from last year went she had like a 1350 sat.

i was accepted here too but think i'll most likely pass. they didn't even ask for an essay or letter of rec on the app, so it makes me wonder if i should even trust a school where admission is.. easy? i suppose

i did check up a bit on the school though.. i hear the professors are insanely hard to find, and that sometimes you get charged for ridiculous things
