is st.marks considered a “hidden gem” school?
thank you for the links!

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about the school! I’m a current 5th former (junior) at St. Mark’s.

it only lets me PM if I have 15 or more posts! if you don’t mind answering here, how do the forms work (4th form, 5th form…ect.)? Is 4th form 10th grade? And what do most kids wear to class, since the dress code is kind of strict?

oh, and I’m the same person as Girl28, it wouldn’t let me reset my password so I made a new account.

Forms is just the way St. Mark’s classifies the different grade levels. Third form is 9th grade, fourth form is 10th grade, fifth form is 11th grade, and sixth form is 12th grade. I believe St. Mark’s was modeled after boarding schools in England or something like that so they choose to use this designation for grades.

I wouldn’t say the dress code is that strict. I’d describe it as business casual. The school just wants its students to look in a presentable way. For guys this means a collared shirt and dress pants, slacks or dress shorts. You can also wear jeans if they’re not blue. I’m not as clear on the dress code for girls but not many students complain about the dress code here. Also, if you buy St. Mark’s sweatshirts from the bookstore you can wear those to class.

Is it true that all the girls there wear mostly colored jeans?
I wonder why blue isnt allowed then…
Thank you for the answer, really detailed!!

@StMarker14 How academic is St. Mark’s? What are the average SAT scores? How do you like the dorms?

Hi Girl28, (I’m a parent), from my visits to campus I wouldn’t say most girls are wearing colored jeans. They wear skirts, dresses, nice dress pants, and some wear colored jeans sometimes. They can’t wear blue jeans during class time, dress events, or chapel. They do wear jeans and sweats outside of those times. There is a widespread bias against denim, otherwise known as “blue jeans,” in private schools in general.

By state law, students must wear closed toe shoes for science labs. Fun fact. As we have snow on the ground on the first day of spring, this isn’t a problem, unless you’re one of the teens who feel flip-flops are appropriate for everything.

Parent5656, when you visit, or at revisit days, you can ask for the school’s profile. It’s a sheet they send to colleges with students’ college applications. Most private schools will have their college profile available.

I got an email from a student at st marks, and I asked her what most girls wore to class. she didn’t even include the word skirt! For winter, she said colored jeans and a sweater, and for summer she said colored jeans and any shirt. I guess I’ll just have to see for myself at the revisit days.
Are black jeans allowed though?

How do you think the college guidance counseling is at St Marks?

It’s been very helpful. This week is the most nerve-wracking time to ask, though!

Good point. Sorry and good luck!
